WIP: making Shadow Rune a co-op/game night kit version

By sdh007, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello,

First of all my best wishes for the next year to all of you! Merry Christmas and a happy gaming 2015! :P

That being said...I'm working with the idea of making the Shadow Rune campaign into a co-op/Game Night Kit in the same style as Forgotten Souls, Nature's Ire,...

It might seem impossible to do but so far I think I have some good ideas on how to make the conversion.

But before getting too much into the rules, I kinda need some feedback from you guys. To make it fast paced and challenging, I would like to have 3 Act I encounters. So not a full quest but but for instance Fat Goblin encounter 1, A Masquerade Ball encounter 2,...

So please, post your 3 favourites encounters. This can be cos you like the winning condition, the setting, the story, the monsters,...

If you have questions, feel free to ask as I kinda have the idea worked out (in my mind). AGain, feedback from the community is priceless. Doesn't mean I will do everything you guys suggest but..it might

fat goblin 1, daerion 2, cardinals plight 1

Thank you for posting Zaltyre...I assume you picked these for gameplay conditions? (gathering crops, defending a knight, finding a certain key)

Yes, I enjoy the objectives of these encounters. Fun to play in the original campaign

I have been working on this very project since July except that I have been using Version 2.1 of Nerdook's Co-Op rules located on BGG. I have made it through the Dawn Blade. I have playtested each quest numerous times to help ensure a good conversion. If you are interested in this system as opposed to the official one, I may be able to save you alot of time. Let me know if interested.

Thanks

Dan Howell

Hello RDH / Dan Howell,

Thanks for your reply to this. I also have those and rejack's co-op rules for playing the campaign. I used them and I loved it.

The intention of this is more to make it like a game night kit. You draw a exploration card and that indicates what tile you'll be encountering next. So naturally you start with the starting tile of the encounter "First Blood", after doing it's objective you draw a new one and so on.

I'm only having some dilemma as I see 2 ways of making this:

A) I use the tiles of First Blood and after defeating Mauler, the first encounter(introduction) ends. On the end tile of the First Blood tile, there will be 3 question marks. You pick up one and the color indicates which 3 Act I encounters you will play during the campaign. After these 3 enounters, the interlude The Shadow Vault will be played. After that 3 Act II encounters (only those referring to the played Act I encounters) will be played and then the finale Gryvorn Unleashed will be played.

In short; each quest will have about 6 tiles from both encounters.

B) I start with the starting tile of First Blood and the exploration cards will have tiles and objectives from 3 Act I encounters. After completing all these, you play The Shadow Vault. Then Act II starts and the explortaion cards will have tiles and objectives from 3 Act II quests (referring the Act I counterparts). Then finally, you play the Gryvorn Unleashed mission.

In short; each quest will have about 6 tiles from all current Act encounters.

OK, I see what you are trying to do now. I think Ilike option B the best. It seems like you would have more exploration that way. Good luck!
