I may be late to the show on this but a friend recently told me about this. Supposed rumor that Disney has a movie entitled "Red 5" in the pipe. Anybody hear anything about this? I'd love for there to be an X-wing themed movie, red-shirt themed about ordinary SW folk. And/or Wedge.

Considering the Battle of Yavin was the first action Red 5 (Luke Skywalker) saw, I would say it has to take place between the OT movies.

Although it could be about a brand new pilot.

Mark Hamill? He was Blair in both WCA and WC3-5. If it is animated why not use him?
I'd rather it be about a new or collection of pilots. Think 'Band of Brothers' meets Star Wars. Making it Luke I feel will make it too tempting to make it some brand-new-epic-never-before-seen-Luke-defeats-new-super-evil story. But just a story about a group of pilots fighting the Empire -- hell, even an Imperial fighter squadron -- would be awesome. Keep them out of the movie battles and put them in one of countless other campaigns.
But since it's Red Five it's probably going to be hero themed. If not Luke, maybe it's about the pilot that comes after him and takes up the mantle? The same way Voort is dubbed Piggy in the Wraith Squadron books.

There is no reason why Red 5 needs to be Luke.
It's not like there was no red 5 before A new hope.
Part of me hopes that it's the story of 5 pilots in Red squadron (the Red 5), instead of the 5th pilot in Red Squadron. Just to throw a curveball at everyone

As cool as that would be, it would be a rather short story.
We know that Biggs and Wedge both join the flight academy at the start of ANH and then all but wedge die at the end of the film
That doesn't leave much room for a story.
Following Red Squadron before the events of ANH could be a interesting story.
Have have the main character as the pilot who Luke takes over from.
We would know he's gonna die but still could be interesting....

We've asked for them for ages, we've got them, we should use them really.
It keeps everyone happy as game talk purists dont get the forum cluttered with spoof threads or long winded discussion on the merits of the movies and those of us that want a more 'community' feel where you can just drop in and talk about anything with friends with similar interests online can do that without annoying anyone.

I don't recall them saying he/she died, it is possible that he/she just got a promotion.
I doubt a new Star Wars movie would have it's name out there already. It would be under a false one, ala "Blue Harvest".

I dunno, Marvel is releasing names years out. Disney has set precedence already.
