Scum and Villainy Episode 11 and Interview with Dallas Parker

By Kelvan, in X-Wing

Since they are separate recordings I want to link our interview with Dallas. We had a lot of fun with him and he offers great insights on what it takes to be a good player, the wave 5 meta, and big tournaments he’s been involved in.

As far as Episode 11. We cover the Imperial Raider and how exicted we are for an Imperial Epic ship. Theorist is particularly excited as he’s on his new Epic kick. We cover the changes to the Tie-Advanced and Mr. Froggies busts out his “Enhance” tool to give us an idea of what cards we might be seeing (PALPATINE!!!!!).

We recap the TCO and do some prep talk on the Team Covenant Aces League.

Finally we share some wave 5 and 6 squads we’ve been running recently and cover what we like about them.

I'm so excited for the Imperial Raider. I hope that it comes with a few cards that boost the Tantive. I really want Epic to be awesome. I think we're about to hit that point.

We had an epic tournament that lasted about a month. It felt empty as a mostly Imperial player not having a huge ship to go to against transports and tantives. I think the Raider will breathe some life into the Epic scene, and I hope FFG evens the score with the Rebels with a second huge ship soon :).

So... palpatine and Tarkin. I think they're both Huge Only.

What?!?!? I can't put him on a shuttle with a Royal Guard Escort :(

That was the response of the other guys. I just worry about the thousand deaths of palpatine.

Downloaded, listening, love it!

Thanks guys!

" FCS is at best one extra damage per round"

On Corran? I don't think that's even close lol. FCS ptl r2d2 Corran eats low-agility targets alive. Advanced sensor Corran takes quite awhile longer to do the same thing. Sensors is great but you're giving up some of the highest and most-reliable repeatable single-round damage in the game when you don't put FCS on him. The difference is not subtle.

All the advanced sensor shenanigans in the world won't let a double-tap really threaten Soontir or Vader when they are turtled up. FCS makes him a holy terror on those targets.

I agree, although the perma turtled Corran never dies.

The Adv Sensor Corran is more about maneuverability. Being able to boost and/or barrel roll before you move can give you some crazy options. It is a trade off, but against Super Dash It's very good. FCS is great, but I think you may want to give Adv Sensors a try and see what you think.

I know this isn't getting as much play but I want to point out how good Dallas has been this past year. he's been in top consideration every tournament he's gone to. I know it doesn't get the shine that Worlds does but the TCO was every bit as hard of a tournament. He has great insight.

Advanced Sensor Engine Corran is like a cross between Whisper and Echo. You can BR left, or right, or boost forward 1 which is like Whisper. Then there's the boost left or right forward which is like Echo. Then you have the Boost and Barrel Roll or Barrel Roll and Boost options that you can do all before you move. With R2-D2 on there you have a regenerating ship that's extremely hard to pin down. You trade a little bit of fire power for a huge upgrade in maneuvering. If they are going to try and block you then take your double actions and do your green and regenerate a shield. I think the depths of Corran really hasn't been seen yet.

It's possible. I have run AS quite a few times. Corran B B Tala with VI AS and r2d2 is really solid. But I haven't yet had any luck with the full 49-pointer that everyone alludes to. I am concerned about ptl Corran's chances after Soontir and Vader(both ps9) become popular. It might be a buff to the AS builds just because nothing else gives you the unpredictability to survive those two.

Truthfull every ps8 pilot is now looking nervously towards VI.

Great stuff. Ugh that enhancement tool is so useful! Thanks for unpacking the Raider-class expansion for us!

I think the more maneuverable version is good against Super Dash, but looking to the future with the Improved Soontir, and Darth looming. I'm not sure where Corran fits, or what his best build will be.

Sure thing. Thanks for the Scum Kath Build. It's been fun. I just need to play it some more.

Any thoughts on how the newly leaked Mangler Cannon will likely affect the Super Dash Corran lists? More points for Corran, if so, what?

I think the Mangler Cannon opens up some of the lower PS ships to run the Outrider. The Fringer can now run the Mangler and Fly with Fat Han. That seems nasty.

I think the Mangler Cannon is the go to for the outrider. plus it lets you run dash and 3 Awings... soooo....
