Do you have terrible luck?

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

If your luck is only bad that you cringe at rolling green dice, go somewhere else. Stop complaing about your first world problems, man up and wipe your nose.

Now, if your luck is so bad you don't want to even roll red dice... and your models sit on the shelf forlornly pleading to be played... I have a list for you:

Captain Oicunn (42)
Ruthlessness (3)
Gunner (5)
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Darth Vader (3)
Commander Alozen (25)
Draw Their Fire (1)
Accuracy Corrector (0)
TIE/x1 (0)
Total: 100
5 nearly guaranteed ways to deal damage:
Oicunn smash
Ruthlessness
Gunner
Vader
Accuracy Corrector (Would have taken ATC, but alas! 1 point)

Luck as an abstract is a bit like 'magic' in that it doesnt exist.

What it is is 'preparation meet opportunity'.

Like if you're broke and see a discarded/lost $20 note on the floor in the mall, its not 'lucky' .

It was always there, you were just more tuned into (prepared) seeing that opportunity.

Games are the same, even those involving random chance.

The trick is to minimise the amount of 'random' by stacking the odds as heavily in your favour as possible :)

I used to play a lot of napoleonics where there were virtually no dice. It was about working out 'frontage' , 'range' and 'first volley' or 'troop ability' in a forumula. Positioning was everything.

But that aside.... interesting list because you're doing exactly that.. minimising 'randomness'. :)

honestly i think its a pretty fine list too!

Can probably go toe to toe with Fat Han. With some luck you can do the infamous corner trap trick with Decimator and Shuttle against Dash.

Should be possible vs Phantom 5 ties. (Blast it with collateral damage).

Has a bad day against 4 Rebel Control.

Probably also has a bad day vs 7swarm, but hey, most things do.

Though honestly, Isard would have been nice. At least you have Alozen pulling multiple crits off you and Alozen does not die easily. AT ALL.

Easy deployment too.

Shuttle on one corner as a flank

Decimator and Adv on the other corner. Keep Adv R1 to the Decimator. Spew massive damage.

Add Proton Bomb, Assault Missile, Advanced Proton Torpedo and Buzzsaw for more guaranteed damage.

Its the law of large numbers.

Extreme sequences of events *will* happen given enough 'events'

Corran doing that well or badly is balanced out by the 9999999 games across the world where he plays averagely :)

Like i say there is no 'luck'

Just probability, stacking that probability in your favour and being prepared for it

But yes , i know what you mean, im playing devils advocate, even though i dont believe in 'luck' i still say 'wow that was lucky' all the time.

Luck's real, man.

Red dice are more lucky than green ones, for instance.

Well, luck may not be real but that still doesn't rule out curses. My RPG dice will often go weeks without rolling higher than a 10 on a 20-sided die.
