Replacing the card board tiles with Hirst Arts Molds

By Lord Dragon, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So I am saving up to purchase Imperial Assault but I was thinking about reproducing the cardboard tiles into 3D map pieces by using my Sci-Fi themed hirst arts molds. I was wondering if anybody has thought about doing this yet or of they have already done so. so what people thought about doing something like this.

I will be doing so, as soon as i can and I get my copy.

I would love to see them when they're done. I have quite a few Hirst molds and have thought of doing the same thing for several games i have. In the end though I just decide it's too much work ;p Maybe one day!

How many tiles are there?

Actually, a better statistic to know would be how many grid-squares there are, if you total all the tiles. Because that is the minimum number of Hirst bits you'd have to cast up. Has anyone counted to determine this (likely intimidating!) number?

I've thought about doing this using Mantic Battle Zone scenery. But the odd shaped map pieces make it impractical to do so. Have you considered the cardstock sci-fi scenery from Battle System? I'd link their site but I'm at work and it's blocked....

Ignoring the cutouts, if you assume all the tiles are rectangular along their longest dimensions I get 984 squares. Considering most of them are rectangles the real number probably isn't much lower.

Edit: It was bugging me, the true total is 966 squares.

I am going to do this just for the skirmish game. Redoing the mission tiles is doable but very time consuming and they are irregularly shaped. Descent 1st ed was doable, all the tiles came out in block forms i started on a 2nd ed casting and threw the towel in after just a few tile were done. So if I get the molds back I will probably make some more for the co-op variant

Well the official skirmish mode uses specifically built maps, it's not just make a random map and place troops on it. An they use the odly shaped tiles just as much as campaign maps.
