The problem isn't ungraceful behaviour, it's childishness.
I understand that people get sick of the same old topic over and over again, but what's often at play is a sense of strange pseudo elitism where posters are all too hasty to dismiss someone's post or thread by exaggerating and simplifying what it says in order to frustratedly throw up their hands and claim that this post/thread is merely the latest in a long string of similar, empty threads.
Often it's not the case and humorously enough, if a topic really is exhausted and stale, then the topic will garner no interest, no replies and will eventually fall down the forum list to obscurity.
The irony seems to be lost on these posters who spend time writing lengthy posts in a topic they deem unworthy of attention - and in doing so, giving it yet more attention! It's quite funny.
If you're not interested in a thread, don't visit it. Which is why I don't take any offence to the unoriginal parody threads. I just glance past them, they occupy a few fractions of a second of my fleeting attention.
But it would be nice if people would either engage productively in a discussion or else pass by it and find something they do want to talk about. I come here to read and post about things I am interested in, not to project or to refine the things I choose to be offended by.
Some posters here must be a real blast to hang out with.
Edited by force kinI think though for some people (myself certainly), if you're bored and at a loose end you get sucked into convos you dont really care that much about or have said your view on before.
Its like when i used to have cable TV.
I'd watch the 'least rubbish' thing on a lot of days and waste a lot of time.
i could have switched it off and read a book or painted a mini but it was easier just to put 'the history channel' on
Great. I think I got it, but just in case, tell me the whole thing again. I wasn't listening.
Personally I do not tolerate intolerant people. . . and the Dutch!
Oy!
At least they aren't picking on the Belgians for once.

Don't underestimate them. They have waffles.

Yeah, you don't want to end up going to Waffle Court.
In 27 years of playing wargames, xwing is possibly the most balanced game i've ever played...
Forgive my bluntness, exactly what do you base this on? As of two weeks ago you didn't even know how the Phantom, one of the most meta-defining ships in the game, worked. Nor, it seems, does at least one other opponent you play with, which in turn makes me wonder how experienced your entire playgroup is.
That raises two points. First is that I'm not entirely sure you're the all that credible to be making claims as to X-wing's balance, since you really don't seem to have a solid grasp of the game yet. But more importantly, what sort of response did you get to your question? Was it friendly responses explaining the things you didn't understand? Or did someone run off and make a thread about how nobody knew how bacon worked? Heck, did anyone even suggest that you might have used the search function to find the answer rather than recreating yet another thread about decloaking? Nope.
But you, who is apparently perfectly willing to declare X-wing's balance fine despite zero experience with one of its most powerful ships, decide to start a mocking thread directed at anyone who disagrees with you. Yea, I know, "Satire!! Har har!". No. Just... no.
Compare those responses. That's what Duraham is talking about. More importantly, the mockery clone-threads, the name-calling, the insults like Grave(s), all come from one segment of the community, and are all directed at anyone who dares question the perfection of the game. There's nothing light-hearted about it. Declaring satire doesn't excuse it. It's shallow, and nasty, and we as a community should at least try to be better than that.
I just has 2 bacon and tomato sandwiches and they were great.
I didn't feel that the.bacon was overpowered at all, but rather the two went well together
Kind if like dutch and Garven
To sum up: We could have a lighthearted, friendly community, including fun parodies of the generic topics that get wheeled out on a seemingly weekly basis, but apparently corporate websites are meant to be dark, foreboding affairs...

No, we do not have a lighthearted, friendly community.
We have a community of raving fanbois who insult, belittle, and do their best to intimidate anyone who doesn't share their view of the perfection of the game.
Slight difference.
And this is different than the raving group of doomsayers who insult, belittle, and do their best to intimidate anyone who doesn't share their view of the shortcomings of the game?
Ungracious forum behavior, indeed.
BLTs are great by the way, but if you really want to push them to the limit, substitute the mayo for some cream cheese mixed with powdered ranch dressing mix. Talk about overpowered!

Are you this uptight in real life or is it a forum personna?
Oh i didnt know how to use a ship i'd only recently bought and neither did one of the 20 or so people i play against who had never used one before.
As i've said in previous posts I used to avoid EU stuff and was an OT purist, i've *recently* started using EU ships.
I dont think asking for a rules clarification about one ship means 'zero knowledge of game balance'.
Right quick gmaing CV for you if it makes you happier.
I've been playing RPGS like 'runequest' since i was about 12, i've played no end of tabletop board games, wargames and RPGs in the last 27 or so years. Everything from stuff like talisman to the obvious stuff like warhammer and 40k through to really obscure board games about gettysburg and then stupidly detailed napoleonics like 'to the sound of the guns' and WWII rules that were equally nerdy and required you to take into acount how much petrol or diesel a tank used per turn whether it was 'idling' or moving cross country (tactical commander).
I probably own over 100 games and have played them, i've probably played hundreds more in the last near three decades.
I think that gives me a fair idea of what makes a good game.
Professionally, and i'll have to drag out the old chestnut here i used to design games and scenarios and campaigns for Games Workshop events. That might not be a great thing depending on your view of GW but i made them a lot of money and lot of people played them so i must have been doing something right. I also playtested a few books and games for GW like Inquisitor (you can see my minis in the book at the back, well one of them). So you know i've been into gaming hobby wise and work wise for nearly three decades. I still write the odd bit of freelance stuff for some companies too.
If you think its such a bad game and we're all such bad people why are you here?
Seems most people can take a joke, are you personally offended at the moment or are you being offended on behalf of someone else?
If someone had replied to my request about clarification of cloaking with a jokey reply i'd have taken it in good humour.
You just seem really wound up all the time man, chill out eh its a game of 'toy soldiers' with plastic space ships in a made up world. There are far more important issues in the world to get upset about.
But you know i had to ask like the third rules based question on here in six months so i clearly know nothing about wargaming.
And if you want to see my sample of players im basing this on.
By all means add me on FB (i'm gadge europa), i'll invite you to 'dagmar squadron' which is the group of local players i regularly game with. Its currently 25 members.
Its a private fb group i think so you'd have to be invited but i'll be very civil to you, we can discuss our differences there if you like, who knows we might even sort it out and get along. if we dont we can 'unfriend' each other, you've had evidence i've a reasonably large and diverse player group who all play at each others homes or in the pub so you know i'm not lying.
I have *nothing* to hide from you dude and im more than happy to speak to you in person (or via pm ) if you feel personally put out by a bit of humour. if you're not offended and being offended on someone elses behalf... well perhaps let them have a pop at me eh?
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1513840755495460/
You probably cant see the content there without being added to the group but you may be able to see we have 25 members. Not a lot of posts this month but then we see each other in the local rock pub so arrange stuff in person.
Edited by GadgeAh well. It was worth a shot.
Pm inbound dude.
You see i thought that too.
For the record i've sent Buhalin a PM to say sorry if i've honestly upset him as im not here to wind people up.
If i do its by accident not design.
yawn... Man, where's WonderWAAAAGH when you need him, these boards have gotten rather sad. Also, where's BrownBomber with list innovation... That guy was really good. This forum needs more Wonder checking numb nuts and Bomber bringing new and interesting list ideas! A wish for the new year!
Now there is a name I have not heard for some time...
Personally I do not tolerate intolerant people. . . and the Dutch!

Don't underestimate them. They have waffles.
And the FNH gun factory.
Because of the nature of this thread, it has been moved to the X-Wing Off-Topic forum.
I read this and wonder:
"Who pooped the bed?"
Did you know I've enjoyed scouting the forums. Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny, Armada and Imperial Assault. Together with X-Wing I've found a lot of useful information.
Even negative posts have provided a useful opposing viewpoint. By the time I was done, I came to the well informed decision that FFG Star Wars, in it's many game systems, is something I'm going to get into.
Reading the off-topic section has been great fun. My first comment was about GI Joes. Great way to stop brain drain from information overload.
Nothing has offended or bothered me.
So as someone who isn't even a newbie, and who has no loyalties or prejudices, I can give my impartial and unbiased opinion:
The only ungracious behavior I've seen is someone telling others what they can or can't post.
That's not a shot at the OP, Duraham has every right to object to parody posts. Just like the parody posters have every right to post parodies.
