How would you feel if you made what you thought was serious thread and overnight about seven p***takes off it cropped up?
ungracious forum behaviour
Let's be honest here, the bacon thread was at least three times as useful as the thread it parodied.

There's been a lot of bacon threads. If your thread gets parodied by a bacon thread, you know you've crossed a line somewhere.

Um, flattered?
Personally I do not tolerate intolerant people. . . and the Dutch!
Also, from what I have learned:
Most threads about ships being overpowered ends in a lively discussion about bacon
Bacon is OP.

or at least food. I don't know why OT threads on this forum always degenerate into food discussions. Doesn't happen on any other boards I've ever been on.
It's called "a running joke".
No, we do not have a lighthearted, friendly community. To sum up: We could have a lighthearted, friendly community, including fun parodies of the generic topics that get wheeled out on a seemingly weekly basis, but apparently corporate websites are meant to be dark, foreboding affairs...

We have a community of raving fanbois who insult, belittle, and do their best to intimidate anyone who doesn't share their view of the perfection of the game.
Slight difference.
Can we stop it with all the mock threads?
Someone brings up a issue / problem that they have with the game. Maybe a POV that certain pieces are a little too strong when compared with others. Or maybe some issues tackling a specific combination. Or maybe some concern regarding future releases. Instead of looking at the issue, having a healthy discussion, addressing the OP's concerns and whatnot, we go about bashing him, making fun of his opinion, and mock him with parody threads.
I really do not think this is healthy forum behaviour, and I do not think we should stoop so low as to resort to these childish antics in the name of entertainment. If anything, these sort of behaviour only further discourages constructive discussion and prevents us from moving beyond the current commonplace complaints about the game
And I can bet there will be at least 2 other threads created with similar titles and whatnot to this thread, except with some nouns and verbs switched out for other random words, because nobody would give a ****
What does this thread have to do with X-wing?
Thread (like yours) complaining about threads you don't like are the same thing as OT mock threads.
Exccept those tongue in cheek threads are actually fun to read.
I'm just about getting sick of those complainers who want to clamp down on the lighthearted nature of these forums and censor them to hell and back. And for what? So it's wall to wall xwing lists?
How would you like it if somebody reports the 500th x-wing list as spam?
Ok to ballance my rant a bit I'll admit the "inclusive" mock threads were perhaps a bit overkill, but that was months ago.
Everybody chill and fly casual.

Netrunner forums is on this site too. The corporations can be as dark and foreboding as they want.

Oy!

At least they aren't picking on the Belgians for once.
That matters less to me.
.
Guys, with regards to the bacon thread it was indeed a 'running joke' that a few people *in good humour* try and divert/obfuscate the convo onto the subject of bacon when its all getting a bit serious or negative.
Its not intended to mock or belittle anyone... just to remind us all that we're all grown men and women moving plastic toys around (and if you're me making laser noises) and its not worth getting het up over.
I have been in discussion with forum mods regarding sub forums and pinned threads but nobody seemed to be bothered to state what they wanted.
Sub forums would let us have OT humour etc and not upset purists.
PLEASE post in my thread about sub forums so that i can present the FFG mods on here a sample group of opinions of more than ten people
Man I am really cheese hacked off now I was typing out this really long elaborate linking of Michael Caine and The Empire of The Son and Batman The Dark Knight Rises and bad robots production on You Tube called Hunka Junk then went to make a BLT sandwich and there was no bacon in the fridge and I camew back to the man cave and saw that the darned cat was looking for cat videos on the internet and deleted my really long winded and comedy filled rant. . . . . . So yeah What Gadge said . And I really like my toy soldiers a whole bunch .
Maybe I should parody the bacon thread with a:
"Is salad underpowered" thread.
In the new off-topic forum of course. Seems bacon is so awesome it has made salad an unpopular choice.

True, salad is the poor mans choice for wholesome breakfasts.
But auto thrusters will sort it out.
They have saved everything else, why not salad?
ALL HAIL BACON!
Here is what im tired of seeing.....oh you got something new? Omg its op and the sky is falling whatever shall I do now that you have a new toy....cry....cry...cry....
Or the I just got my butt spanked in a game because they are running op stuff so now things are broken and the game isnt fun anymore so im going to go in a rant about how this faction is way stronger than this faction....
Just stop! Nothing is broken in this game for one. Everything has its place on the table. Some things are better at doing things better than others....
Its up to you to find out how to remedy a list you are playing. Find out what works best to counter the said list you got spanked by. ... people will help you on here...but please dont come on here posting a thread saying that this ship is broken or this faction is broken. Those who have been playing awhile know better and im sure like many they get tired of seeing a sky is falling thread because we know its Bullshivosky and you need to stop crying about things go fact check your options correct said options and play play play.......
Im sorry if that sounds harsh but it is the **** truth....
it is exactly as Grave says.
wargames with ongoing and 'active' rulesets are like real warfare.
there is a pendulum that swings between attack and defence. at certain times and eras the pendulum favours one more than the other.
In wwi the pendulum swung right to the end of the 'defence' arc' because of the trench and the machine gun. By late WWII the arc had swung to 'attack' because of light automatic weapons and the tank.
Its been like that since buggo the caveman found his killer 'rock' list was negated by ruggos 'wicker shield' list
Xwing is the same, look at it in a narrative sense and it might help....
Imperial forces were finding rebel turreted ships hard to tackle so the technicians started fitting better manouvering jets.
If it seems harsh for your side at the mo, remember that as long as new material comes long the pendulum *will* swing the other way.
In 27 years of playing wargames, xwing is possibly the most balanced game i've ever played that doesnt require you to use a calculator to play and have a rulebook that makes a king james bible look like a mills and boon paperback.

As Bart Simpson once said: "You don't make friends with salad- you don't make friends with salad- you..."
