ungracious forum behaviour

By Duraham, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Can we stop it with all the mock threads?

Someone brings up a issue / problem that they have with the game. Maybe a POV that certain pieces are a little too strong when compared with others. Or maybe some issues tackling a specific combination. Or maybe some concern regarding future releases. Instead of looking at the issue, having a healthy discussion, addressing the OP's concerns and whatnot, we go about bashing him, making fun of his opinion, and mock him with parody threads.

I really do not think this is healthy forum behaviour, and I do not think we should stoop so low as to resort to these childish antics in the name of entertainment. If anything, these sort of behaviour only further discourages constructive discussion and prevents us from moving beyond the current commonplace complaints about the game

And I can bet there will be at least 2 other threads created with similar titles and whatnot to this thread, except with some nouns and verbs switched out for other random words, because nobody would give a ****

To sum up: We could have a lighthearted, friendly community, including fun parodies of the generic topics that get wheeled out on a seemingly weekly basis, but apparently corporate websites are meant to be dark, foreboding affairs... :P

As much as I can agree with you, sadly this is how the internet is.

Cannot stop people from posting regardless of what it is. Their opinions, satire threads and in some cases insulting posts

With that said and I've said this many times over, these message boards are a thousand times better than other message boards.

Some things I see on the destiny forums is just horrendous.

Just ignore the odd troll posts and move on.

If you ignore them, they will quickly end up on page 10.

As the saying goes

Dont feed the trolls

I'm not saying I am a great player, I'm not. But I have been in other games. I could play some weird deck and be unstoppable making my local players thing my cards were op. I think that is part of the problem. The other part is that these threads seem to start a new one every other day much like the "I think this ship should be next" threads. While 25% really want to talk about this in a serious way the other 75% have grown tired of it. We wish you would keep it to one thread instead of starting a new one everyday or sometimes twice or three times a day. I know everyone thinks they are starting with a fresh idea but you're not, you're just being lazy not searching for the thread that is already talking about this. We see people necroing threads one year dead and think it is the same problem. I hope that people seeing a mocking thread will make the people stop but I know that will never happen.

I'm sorry we have offended you. Some people are more passive aggressive and it is a "nicer" way, depending on how you feel, to call someone out on something that a lot of people seem to find silly. Meaning we aren't calling out a single person and attacking them but more generalizing it to a larger group. Also, I'm pretty sure the same people that are joining the mock threads are also joining the serious threads.

In my opinion those threads don't usually have this "constructive discussion" you speak of.

I for one empathize with the guy going "oh not this thread again... " and then creating a mock thread. I did it myself once because I thought the other post was too nihilistic, derailed, and hardly contained anything constructive. Otherwise I just try to stay away, because some people are too headstrong to change their mind about certain balance issues *ahem*.

edit: I don't condone making fun of people, but having a light-hearted chat about bacon is hardly insulting.

The forums should be a place for serious discussions and for OT SW related threads and lighthearted ones as well. The crazy gif one is still one of my favorites and the imperial epic announcement thread is 1) just won't die 2) is hilarious.

I'm ok with jokes and parodies as long as one they aren't insulting, lighthearted, somewhat freshy original (there were too many of how can be more inclusive, the first few were funny). I understand that it's subjective but just my take

I apologize for having a bit of fun. I saw no harm in spoof threads the same as I saw no harm in SpaceBalls or Lapoons Loaded Weapon.

Clearly my good humor is offensive to this serious forum. Clearly abusive arguing and childish moaning is proper forum behavior.

To all who I have offended I can only say:

Boohoo

You heard me boozyhoo

Hobbies are fun and Star Wars has a lot of humor in it. If you want serious gaming with serious people take up 40K.

Everyone needs to lighten up and realize that the community should be allowed to mock itself. No one is getting called out specifically and it's all in good nature.

My problem is how such threads clog up the board. It becomes a lot harder to find the actual content if you have to wade through 10 junk threads that are just passive aggressive complaints about other people's threads.

Silly people need to be laughed at...

We just need the other sub-boards we have been... needing for a year now.

That would take care of most of the issues here.

:)

I think decent moderation would be more of a factor than the sub-forums. If people have a visible someone they can complain to then these junk threads won't pop up so often since they are basically just an attempt at complaining about something without breaking forum rules. Plus, moderators would be able to delete such off topic threads as they come up.

I have a gripe with having someone find a thread already started. If it's more than two weeks old you have the obligatory forum dinks come on and ***** about thread necromancey. We are not going to be able to have it both ways.

From what I have learned:

Every Rebel release makes them overpowered.

Every Empire release makes them overpowered.

That's before any single model gets to the table. In most cases before there's any knowledge of the stats, pilots or upgrades.

Stop people moaning before they've even played against/with a ship and you stop the mockery.

Now the threads of "My game winning list just got blaster-spanked in two turns" shouldn't be mocked. Those tend to be full of good advice on how to improve against the dream list killer.

Also, from what I have learned:

Most threads about ships being overpowered ends in a lively discussion about bacon

If it's two weeks old I'm fine with that. I'm talking about the Kessel Run thread that hasn't been posted in in two years and somebody going "cool, I wish I had been playing then. My Dash team would have been so cool" followed by five guys remanissing about it or talking about doing it again so the first person thought he did the right thing in necromancing it because clearly people are still interested I talking about it.

The only "ungracious" behavior I have seen in these forums are from people that don't seem to appreciate a good breakfast. I can only assume there is some sort of correlation there for all the MathWing experts out there to figure out. :D

And if you don't like breakfast, then...

or at least food. I don't know why OT threads on this forum always degenerate into food discussions. Doesn't happen on any other boards I've ever been on.

Just because you are over 12 years old and, as such, are not able to see the comedic genius of the bacon thread is a reason to advocate that it and threads like it no longer exist?

Sadly, not on this forum.

No, we do not have a lighthearted, friendly community.

We have a community of raving fanbois who insult, belittle, and do their best to intimidate anyone who doesn't share their view of the perfection of the game.

Slight difference.

I have a crazy idea...

let the forum moderators moderate the forums.

The rest of us will just post and be happy until we get a message stating we are in fact the antichrist for posting a "mocking" thread and we will be banished to a place where the anti-flag will rule over us for 7 years of eternal darkness....

good grief man, its a forum about little toy airplanes flown around by man-childs who love monks with swords in space....c'mon...

Yeah. Most of these topics get stared by default. If the sub-forums went up at least most of the time I would not get annoyed because I would keep my big butt in the custom ships forums, and all up in the good video battle reports.

I would not get dragged down by the million rules arguments and cry babies that just have to complain every time FFG makes a new product.

Nobody would post the hate topics in the cool arty forums... that crap would stay on the general boards like it is now.

I said we could have a lighthearted, friendly community. I was replying to someone who seemed to want to insult, belittle, and intimidate those who would contribute to this aim :P

On pretty much every forum I've been a member of, threads beyond a certain length become about sex and food; you only get the latter here because it is more family friendly.

I really can't stand judgemental people. As far as I'm concerned, they're all stuck-up trash.
