question on attack rolls

By Darkvalkyrie, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

According to the Learn to play manual...

1. A hero with the gun symbol can not engage in hth combat?

2. Hero cards have attack colors and yet the rules say they must use thier weapon card attack colors only?

3. Why have ranged attack colors on the hero cards if they can not use them and if they can then why would Fenn Segris ever take a weapon card when his hero card attack skill is better than most of the weapon cards in the game so far?

Im confused on this rule, but so far everything else is pretty simple.

1. What is hth combat?

2. & 3. Those cards are for skirmish. You want the large hero sheets for campaign and those sheets don't have weapons on them

Hth combat = hand to hand combat...used to writing that way for other games, personal habit.

"Melee attacks can only target figures adjacent to the attacker.

Alternatively, ranged attacks can target any hostile figure that
the figure can see (explained in “Line of Sight” below). There
is also a chance that any ranged attack can miss the target (see
“Accuracy” below)" (Page 6, Learn to play Guide).
Heroes with ranged weapons are free to attack any figure as long as they have LOS to the declared target. You don't need a melee attack weapon to attack figures adjacent to you.

So I would use strength attribute in melee if I do not have a melee weapon as it says use strength to overcome physical obstacles or resisting a physical threat? Sorry for questions, pkayed first time last night and these came up.

Playing the campaign: use the large hero cards. Determining what you role to attack comes from a weapon card (an additional smaller card that is separate from the large hero card).

Playing the skirmish mode: use the small deployment cards for the rebel heroes. Determining what you role to attack comes from the attack value on the bottom right hand corner.

The eye symbol, wrench symbol and fist symbol on the large hero cards represent attribute tests (Insight, Tech, strength). Feel free to read up on what those do on page 6 in the rules reference guide. They have nothing to do with attacking.

As I recommended in another thread, feel free to give the demo a watch. Things might start to click once you see it in action:

I watched the video and its hard to understand with background noise.

Answer this last question, Fenn attacks imperial officer in hand to hand combat, what do I roll?

Why would you make a melee attack with no melee weapon when you have a perfectly damage-capable ranged weapon? Every character begins with a weapon of some kind, so you shouldn't ever have NO weapons (unless a mission takes your weapons from you later in the game... I've not read all of the missions yet so I haven't a clue if this happens).

If you're next to a target and you have a ranged weapon, just shoot him in the face :)

Someone like the Wookiee can only attack if adjacent because he has a melee weapon. He has to be able to swing and hit.

Fenn has a ranged weapon and can attack anyone, as long as you roll enough accuracy. You can shoot someone 10 feet away or someone hugging you, makes no difference

His weapon. Just because the guy is standing in front of you doesn't mean you can't shoot him. It's just easier shot.
