Titles

By Cununculus, in X-Wing

Titles are FFG's to go to remedy when a ship needs to be fixed. Several ships have titles now, but are they all fixing a problem? Are the ships without titles mistreated in any way?
Let's see what type of titles there are:

Ship Names: most ship titles are names, adding something extra to deversify play and to spice the game with the iconic names we know. Added to: YT-1300, Firespray, Shuttle, HWK-290, Star Viper

Diversifiers: a title which diversifies the playing style of a ship, but without altering the older/regular style or making it redundant. A good example of this: the upcomming Y-Wing title. And the upcomming Heavy Scyck title to the Scyck fighter and A-wing testpilot for A-wing. After some hesitation I would add the Royal Guard title for Interceptors here as well.

Improvements: a title which significantly alters the playing style or cost of a ship and are simply auto-includes everytime you play: The TIE Advanced X1 title

Specific ship only: are these titles or just upgrades unique to a certain ship? Again a split in diversifiers and improvements.

Diversifiers: bombslot (Y-Wing), added crew (B-Wing), Advanced Targeting (Advanced)
Improvements/auto-includes:
Adv. Cloaking Device or Stygium Paticle Generator for the Phantom (included straight from the beginning, so more auto included than a necessary improvement),
Chardaan Refit for the A-Wing.

We can see that the majority of titles and upgrades are flavouring and adding diversity. Only in one case was it specifically added to improve a specific fighter, the TIE Advanced.

If I forgot one let me know.
If you think a title should be in a different category (Royal Guard title to improvements?) let me know (some arguments as to why would be nice!)

Edited: Switched the A-wing cards, moved A-Wing testpilot to Diversifiers

Chardan refit is a missile slot, not a title

Of the existing titles, all expand options and only one is truly autoinclude. Royal Guard TIE and A-wing Test Pilot are free but you only use them if you use the option they give you (two mods or two EPTs) and you have to pay for those upgrades. All titles giving you slots add options that you have to pay for.

x1 is the only autoinclude, and it's actually giving you five options. Yes, you'd have no reason to run a TIE advanced without a system, but running a naked TIE advanced isn't something anyone did.

The TIE advanced didn't need diversification at its old power level, it needed a boost. And it got both a boost and then diversification of that boost (all those system options!) If the TIE advanced title had given it another option that was on par with the old TIE advanced power level, it would have been ****. Nobody would have used it.

edited; thank you!

Thank you for the response.

I thought Chardaan Refit was a sort of auto-include as many Rebel players switched to the Z-95 as a missile carrier.

The upgrades for the Phantom as well. Does anyone play a Phantom without one? Technically you have a point, they can be flown without them, but I wonder who does. Thoughts?
