I was just wondering after the poor thing has been picked apart already with the thousands of ideas on builds have we as a comunity decided on what is the best load out for the VT-49 Decimator in each of its forms Oicynn? Kenkirk? Chir? I dont care about who flys as wingmen with the Decimator because that spot can be filled with all sorts of Ties or other vessels from the Empire. So what are the final thoughts on our new weapon?
beating a dead horse but..........
Isn't that a matter of preference though?
Yes, it is a matter of preference. If you prefer to win, you will prefer Mara Jade and probably Ysanne Isard. Mix other upgrades to taste, but these two (especially Mara) are solid gold on a Decimator.
I'm only kidding a little bit here. Mara Jade is invaluable in preventing a K-turn, buying your Decimator a precious couple of turns before he can focus fire on you again. Ysanne really helps extend your life, assuming you can keep more than one ship from shooting at you. The two together can easily buy you an extra 4 or 5 turns, and I shouldn't have to outline how valuable that would be.
Edited by KineticOperatorSounds legit...ok but how about the argument of Expose/ EI vs predator or lone wolf im thinking predator is the better choice

If you're not running Mara Jade, Rebel Captive is also a great option. There's a little bit of anti-synergy between the two, because suddenly firing at you in range of Mara Jade simply ignores RC.
I certainly think that Kenkirk is probably going to have the best jousting value for its points, and Chiraneu is similarly likely to win its points back out of the opponent's fleet out of sheer damage. Basically, they're Fat Chewie and HSF, done Imperially.
Is the generic worth it with the Crazy B***hes? Is Oicuun's gimmick worth it competitively? I do not know.

That Horse is still very much alive.. notice the lack of X's for eyes.
Also like Stormtroopers could actually aim and hit it.
Incidentally, possible decimator builds:
4 different pilots x 5 different Torpedo options (No torps is an option) x (16 crew options x 15 crew options x 14 crew options + Y doubling crew options +3 lack-of-crew options) x 4 bomb options x 2 title options x 8 modification options x 23 pilot talent options x 3/4 (as only 3/4 of pilots can equip EPTs) =
220,808Y + 742,577,304
different ways to build the Decimator.
That's almost 3/4 of a Milliard (or Billion, for people who don't like antiquated yet elegant counting systems).
I don't think we've got the bloody TIME to find the "Best" builds, lol.

Who's antiquated?! Milliard is a word used daily in the news here.

Swing at a thing enough times you will eventually hit a thing.

I'm a Yank, and the milliard's gone the way of the dodo here, because we hate it when things make sense consistently.
However, we're correct when it's "Math" and not "Maths". Mathematics is not a plural, it is simply conjugated as such in greek. Same as Politics, or any of the -ics, but we don't go about needlessly pluralizing their abbreviations.
Also, incidentally, I removed possibilities that could technically be equipped and do nothing, like the Stygium Accelerator and the Targeting Computer.
Yeah, you guys really dumbed it down with the million, billion, trillion thing.
.
And still using inches, lbs and fahrenheit. *shakes head morosely.
Ah well, it takes all kinds as they tell me.
Fahrenheit, being based around the normal body temperature of living humans, and an approximation of the freezing point of human blood, is simply the best temperature scale for humans. Maybe your physiology is different, though. If do, let's chat!
Totally with you on the rest of the metric system, though.

yeah, I have such trouble in my day to day life, calculating different scenarios involving the temperature at which blood freezes.
I thought Fahrenheit was based on the temperature Sea Water (salt water) Freezes. And Celsius is based on Pure Water (sweet water; drinkable).
Knowing Sea water is sensible when you think about shipping. And pure water for things such as chemistry.
Fahrenheit is much better than Celsius, because it scales well with our day to day lives. Humans tend to actually live at temperatures between 0-100f. That actually makes it a better metric than Celsius.

You might be right about that. I do know 100f is set at the human body temperature (with a slight oops factor because of bad measuring tools at the time).

The Inch, Foot, Yard, and Mile scale is actually missing a few steps. (Chains and Furloughs).

Kelvin is even better than either of the above: There's no negative!

Actually, negative Kelvin is theoretically possible. It is something that is hotter than all possible positive temperatures (including infinitely high temperatures).
okay.. attempt at serious discussion:
Imo. All the pilots are worth taking. And are at least casually effective. (meaning more than just casually possible, ex. tie bombers).
But what about at the tip top level of play? Is there a difference? I mean the TOP. Top 32 of the world.
Paul Heaver recently ran: Oicunn Pred Gunner, Doomshuttle, 2 Obsidian (4th place in .. TCO i think)
Morgan Reid: Chiraneau EIExpose Isard Rebel Captive, Whisper VI FCS ACD (1st, different tournament)
Someone else did: Kenkirk Predator Gunner Isard Rebel Captive Whisper with something conventional. (4th or so)
@ Blail Blerg.... I would love to see the lists they lost to in those tourneys. I have played in two tourneys in the last two weeks with two Decimator builds and have had a problem against the classic Tie swarm and Han builds.
The first week I lost in the final game to Heaver's Han build. I ran with Echo as my escort and got blotted from the sky at range three by Han.
The second tourney I lost to a tie swarm in the first round, but it was an unusual game due to the fact that his swarm plus Echo put 14 out of a possible 14 damage on my Decimator in one round. Krassix was my wing man in that tourney. I won through and had a chance to take second with a win against Fat Han and almost did it. I tried to be too cute with my dials and cost myself the game at the very end, I was pissed. I took out his escorts in one pass and thought I had it locked up. Nope!
I am going to go with a Kinkirk build today with Whisper or Krassix as my wing man to see how it works. I know that I should probably use a mini swarm as my escort but I just think that is the easy cheap way out lol. When the advanced fix comes out I will run two advanced with my decimator but that is months away. Perhaps I will use Interceptors when S&V comes out.
I love the decimator and in casual store games I am undefeated but that really means nothing I guess. I really want that winter medal and the Alt Han card, even though I don't run Rebels.

Do keep us updated on your game play with the decimator and build archtypes.. Im interested in seeing what is working the best with the new Decimator for everyone that are running lists with one
Hey you can look at the data in MJs miscellaneous tournaments thread. It's a page or two in.
I'll share a tip of my own: the problem with Beaton fat Han is his evade ability is too powerful for low ship builds that do damage via attacks.
So... Use things that are guaranteed damage. Ex vader oicunn or ruthlessness.
Oicunn builds do rather well vs both rebel pancakes. Paul heavers oicunn build uses doomshuttle and a corner to literally trap dash and Han. And can ram them to death.
Standard oicunn 3 tie also puts out barely enough damage and has huge area control that makes the game about 60% in your favor.
Based on TLs mr froggles I think. It's better to use a high priority target with the decimator so that a good opponent has a harder time knowing where to concentrate fire.
I have no opinion on this. Need further testing against good players. Please advise if able.
I have been very happy with oicunn 3 tie. Black with dtf has given me the maximal advantage of soaking about 2 hits more. Let's oicunn survive longer than Han
