People keep asking about the length and saying it looks to be somewhere in between the Rebel Transport and the CR90. I don't get it. It's the same in-fiction length as the CR90, seems reasonable to assume it'll be the same model length too.
Imperial Raider length
I don't get it either.
My only guess is that the triangular shape makes it look less massive than the cr-90 and people are translating that to shorter in length. I fully expect the model to be at least very close to the same length as the Tantive.
I'll be surprised if it's not the same length as the CR-9O.
They're both 150m Long. They should be the same length on the table.
Since we have a picture of the actual model next to a tie advanced, someone with an advanced and cr90 should replicate the positioning and take a picture, then superimpose them.
Edited by KoshinnI mentioned some confusion over it, in part because I saw it paired with a starfighter like the GR-75 and wasn't sure which of the two Rebel huges it meant to counter. I see now that I skipped right over the 150m statement in the news article, so I guess that answers that.
Still thinking we're likely to see a Gozanti at some point.
Ya know, seeing it like that...
The thing really does look quite a bit "too small" for its design. In the same way that the Rebel Transport sort of does, although that one is at least somewhat excusable as the original (studio) model was a bit careless with scale, and in any case it's a transport, anyway, so odd corners and such aren't a huge problem - you are just putting cargo or fuel in those spots.
For this thing, though...the 'edges' of it look particularly...silly. It visually looks like they should be a deck or two 'thick', but then comparing this ship to the CR-90, where the deck breakdown is pretty visually obvious...the decks just seem way, WAYYYY too short. Like, they'd have to be 2-foot ceilings or something to fit that many decks in at that scale.
And then compare the panels that are to be the turret mounts to the turrets on the CR-90, and it's, like... dang ...sooo tiny.
Scale just feels very... off ...on this one. At least, from that pic. It doesn't look 'right' next to the CR-90. I mean, it's a nice looking design and all, but the level of detail and scale of components on the hull make it look far more appropriate as a 300m ship vs a 150m ship.

I agree with this unfortunately. I really liked the design alot before I saw it next to the CR90. Now it looks a little bit small or weird. I hope the final model is appropriately sized.

Yeah, that's the thing - I mean, the design is...pretty cool!
Especially the card art we've seen, with it sitting in asteroid fields and the like...just looks VERY awesome, but, then, put it next to the CR-90, and...well...the scale looks badly wrong.
The design is still good, though, just...I dunno, imagine the same picture, with the Raider twice as long, twice as wide, twice as tall...then it'd look totally convincing and utterly badass!
I dunno, maybe the model pictures are just selling it short or something, but at it the moment, the type of detail to the structure of it really looks more appropriate to a ship twice the size...
This is the problem with shoe-horning the "Imperial wedge" obsession into new Epic ships. The wedge shape makes excellent sense on the scale of actual star destroyers, where the very narrow front is still tall enough for several decks and stations and there are many, many batteries of lasers to aim forwards and make use of the increased field of view. But in a ship at 150m, with a small handful of laser banks (which could have been placed, frankly, anywhere on a ship that size), the front half of the ship really serves no purpose - it's just there to look like triangular.
It's the first X-Wing Minis ship design that I've been really disappointed with and, unsurprisingly, it's FFG's OC. That's the disappointing part, I suppose, they jumped through all these hoops to create a brand new Star Wars ship, getting approval from LFL, and it looks like they just didn't try at all .
Edited by RithrinMaybe all thier stowage is forward of the 2nd gun mount? As far as the size of the turrets the CR-90 is an old ship and this thing is bleeding edge empire technology in comparison.
Look at the art picture. Looking only at the topshot of the model will give you a completely off impression of the shape of this ship.
Being a crew member in that thing must be incredibly dull. staring at a grey wall.
It's an anti fighter ship it's not designed to engage cap ships like the cr-90 is, as such it does not need the same large generators or shielding, it probably has lighter armour too so less mass to move meaning smaller engines.
It's also state of the art where the blockade runner is much older.
The real test will be seeing it alongside an Imperial Shuttle.

FFG was trying to get something that looks like a Star Destroyer into the game without breaking canon.* It succeeded.
*Y'know, the old canon, or Legends canon, whatever.

The 'art picture' is what gives me the small amount of hope I have regarding its scale, although that feeling is definitely mixed.
On the plus side, it absolutely makes the ship look a LOT 'fatter' (taller up-and-down) than the model initially appears, and that's good.
On the negative side...well, look at the edges of the wedge. There are *at least* two rows of lighted windows, there, and there is no way in hell you could fit two decks along the edge of that thing at a scale that gives it a 150m length. Unless, again, the ceiling of these decks is about 2 feet from the floor.

That may well all be true, but whether something is a 'new design' or an 'older design' doesn't change the fact that you are still putting the same size people in it.

I think that's what's killing it is the Star Destroyer-like lighted windows. Fortunately we won't have that on the actual model.
If the bridge was more prominent, I think that would help. Like if you could see the triangular windows of the bridge, you'd get the sense that a person is about X tall. You wouldn't be able to see them at all on a 12-inch ISD, so seeing them here would help.
There's another thread where a Vigil-style sensor dish is placed on top which helps with the sense of scale, along with some nice updates to the hull plating color.
Still, I like this thing. It's been pointed out that it's no great leap from the Sith Fury-class interceptor (aesthetically, I mean—I know very well which era it's from) and the Sith Infiltrator/Star Courier.

Well, not until the LED enthusiasts on this forum get their hands on it, anyway!
