Wonder what wave it'll be in! Hope it's an early one
Imperial Raider
The likelihood of seeing one is pretty strong, and possibly not too far down the track. It's probably been in development for XWM for a decent length of time already. It would seem logical to develop one in parallel for Armada.

Agreed. I can see this as a Wave 2 ship.
Not sure I like the way it looks, but who knows, maybe it will grow on me. TIE Interceptor wings seem to have grown on it , so things like this happen, apparently.

It looks a lot like the Sith Empire stuff from SWTOR...
I think I like it, though I like the SWTOR Sith stuff better. Even though it isn't canon.

This is what happens when a Tie Interceptor takes a Imperial Star Destroyer home

Ooh baby, Interceptor's like an oven
My Imp Deuce need some lovin'
And baby, I can't hold them much longer
It's getting stronger and stronger
And when I get that feeling
I want structural building !

Y'all are just not right...
I think that's why we like you so much.
Im not a massive fan of the ship design - those wings just look weird on a huge ship, but the Imperial side will certainly need something to counter the CR90.

Isn't that what turbolasers are for?
I mean, surely small ships like corvettes are no match for Star Destroyers.

Sure, if the only factor in considering a ships usefulness is its firepower, but I would like to see you capture and hold 3 different strategic points on the same game area, at the same time, with a single Star Destroyer
Yeah and while a corvette will almost certainly lose against a Star Destroyer one on one a small fleet of corvettes could take on a Star Destroyer, particularly an Imperial-I, which in most sources including the FFG RPG has no aft guns. I've lost track of the number of times I've taken a frigate and a group of corvettes against smaller groups of Star Destroyers and won in the rpgs, the computer wargames and the old pocket models TCG.

The WEG D6 gives the ImpStarDeuce a few heavy turbolasers towards the aft arc, but not any of the big gun batteries. (I bring it up because I'm in the middle of a project about it, within the context of WEG D6.)
I know the Imperial-II has a few aft guns but the Imperial-I in both D6 and FFG has none. Honestly that never made sense to me given that the Imperial-I is considered a one ship squadron in the Imperial order of battle but if it is alone and a hostile capship gets on behind it all it can do is hope its TIEs can drive the enemy off before it is destroyed,
Some very good info on the MC series ships... I am definitely looking forward to adding these to my Reb fleet.

True (for WEG), if you don't count Ion cannons.
But I'm glad that you're well versed in the lore of the Imp Sourcebook and the order of battle. It's indeed a one-ship line, but usually part of an attack squadron with two attack lines of 3-6 cruisers each, and a pursuit line of 4-10 light cruisers.
But, yeah I imagine that keeping its hindquarters covered is what its fighters are for. Also, don't forget its bombers. Of course, if an enemy capship gets in the star destroyer's baffles, then the captain is already worthy of having his apologies accepted by Lord Vader.
In terms of Armada, I guess that's going to be the tactical objective of the rebels: figure out how to come up behind the star destroyers, including the Victories, where their offensive capabilities are minimal. It's kind of like the Lambda shuttle in X-Wing like that, I suppose. We don't have anything like the all-stop of the Lambda in the Armada movement mechanics, I suppose.

Maneuver Command to set speed Zero. Risky, but may be useful in a Navigate mission.

You can kinda see what FFG is thinking on this by the fact the Neb-B is the long range Sniper and the Corvette is the skirmisher you force the Imp player to decide on target priority. At the start the game is probably gonna be slatted towards the rebels since the Imperial only gets one ship in the starter box. But once wave 1 hits I can easily see some one trying for the back shot on a Victory and end up fodder for a Gladiator or some lurking Tie Bombers.

Yeah, the Vic commander is going to have a tough choice -- 1) Smash the Neb's long range support and allow the CR-90 to close OR 2) pound the CR-90 while the Neb snipes freely.
This should be interesting.

I'll confess that I have not mastered the maneuver rules yet. I guess I've been waiting to get an actual copy of those rules to learn them.
Back on topic though lol An Imperial raider corvette could have uses to close in against ships like the Nebulon perhaps (which look a bit fragile) whilst the Star Destroyers concentrate on harder targets (like Assault frigates).
I doubt it'd do much damage to Nebulon-B's and the like.....it apparently only has laser cannons and small ion batteries, no turbolasers or any real capability for anti-capitalship attacks.
It should, however, shred fighters real nice

What makes you think that? Because the article specifically mentions it carrying turbolasers though we have no idea how many.

Does it? I can only see this....i may be having an epic reading fail:
" “The Raider is a starship made specifically for anti-fighter warfare. Its six dual heavy laser cannons proved more accurate against snubfighters than the turbolaser batteries of its Star Destroyer cousins, and the disruptive effects of its ion cannon emplacements, along with the efficiency of its localized command, make it a powerful addition to small strike forces."
The raider is an interesting ship. The profile was striking at first but the wings do look a little different. Strong possibility this will be an Armada release. Wave 2 is my guess.
The thing I find most interesting about the ship is that Lucasfilm let FFG design their own capital ship. That indicates a strong relationship between the two companies which is good for all of us and for the lifespan of X-Wing and Armada.
