Power Armour helmets

By MisAnThropic2, in Rogue Trader

Hey guys,

Im wondering about the looks of Inquisitorial helmets to Power armours?
Or kinda ALL helmets to Power Armours - how do they look?

All ive seen are the various Space Marine versions, and i Think the adepta sororitas helmet - if thats the White one?

Are there any Pictures? or can they look pretty much however?

I always imagined they appeared similar to an enclosed IG Stormtrooper helmet, except more advanced and more armored. In fact, the Ignatud power armor in DH Daemonhunter shows a helmet just like that. That said, this is RT. It is feasible to want your helmet to look different if you want. Be a beakie, those are awesome.

Pretty much this!

The way I see it, most suits of power armour are custom-made for their wearer, quite similar to medieval platemail, and as such offer great variety in design. In the end, a helmet is a helmet, so there really aren't that many requirements to fill. It merely needs to offer full enclosure, a visor, audio pickup and speaker, a breathing apparatus, and the cables to connect them to the rest of the suit. And sometimes not even that is a given, seeing how some crazy noble may well opt for an open helmet, or one "without eyes" (relying on external cameras), or one that doesn't actually allow the wearer to speak, etc.

Needless to say, the armour should resemble the personality of the wearer, and the culture of their homeworld. Diesel- or steampunk? No problem. Fantasy knight? Sure thing. Anything from Krieg'ish goggle-eyed WW1-style visor helmets to fancy winged helmets all the way to futuristic stuff ...

Personally, I'd probably recommend looking to classic medieval armour and trying to "sci-fi it up" to make it look a little more like powered armour, such as replacing the chain parts and padded undersuit with a rubber-like bodyglove, and adding greater mechanical detail to joints hinting at increased mobility (plus of course an energy source and eye lenses).

BioWare did a good job when they made a sci-fi version of a Dragon Age armour as a promotional tie-in:

Of course, you could also always just copy existing designs, like with this official TT mini of an Inquisitor wearing what looks like a Grey Knights-style helmet.

Forget the helmet! No one ever complained about their Space Marine Sanshelmetitus flaring up. Maybe, if you're lucky, you can even convince your GM to give you the same bonus DW Space Marines get for braving the field without their helmets. I kind of like to think of them like modern-day actors, arrogant pricks who need to have all the screen time they can. Sly Stallone and Robert Downey Jr. aren't Rogue Traders, but I can see your typical, power-tripping Lord-Captain wanting to make sure everyone else saw them do whatever they just did, and make sure no one thought they were hiding, while a faceless body double took the risk for them.

Okay, now to something with a point. As said, the only Inquisitor armor I've ever seen with a helmet is the cool kind in Ascension. Ignatius armor looks cool, IMO, and rather has the "holier than thou" feel SoB armor has, which is where I think they emulated it from. Even when I bought a non-Inquisition model to be my Inquisitor, it was a Dark Angels Captain, and so he didn't have the helmet; I picked him because I liked the idea of mixing the power armor with the robes Dark Angels often wear, though the Inquisitor has shiny gold armor, rather than the green, and the robes are black, rather than off-white. It came with a plasma pistol, which also helped me pick it, though I might still hack off the chain sword hand for a power sword (pewter, so not certain) I like to imagine many Inquisitors, and also Rogue Traders, will wear the helmet only as much as absolutely possible, such as environments that are dangerous. Otherwise, they'll just want to stamp their face on that moment of history, even if it isn't a great idea.

Yeah you can basically have the helmet look like whatever you want.

Some cool ideas: Blood Angel Deathmask style: but molded in the likeness of the Emperor. Knight style helmets (Grey knights, perhaps?) Chaplian Skull helmet.

Here's a very good design for an inquisitor's power armor helmet:

FOR THE EMPEROR!

^ is your inquisitor named Alpharius by any chance?

Nah, it something like Omeg...oh crap!!! ;) Sometimes wonder how that math was supposed to work. There were 20 Primarchs, they got scattered, and two got "erased" (either because they were MORE heinous then Horus and Co. going to Chaos, or so GW could say "we left YOU some gaps to make up your own stuff"), yet Alpharius and Omegon were each a separate individual, meaning that's two Primarchs, rather than one, for 21 total Primarchs. Don't think Omegon is one of the "other two", though. Still fun to make those up, with a Navigator gene one, and a Pariah gene one, and both are erased.

I was going to post pictures of Inquisitor Drogan and Inquisitor Thrax from Space Marine, then realised they are named characters and thus cannot wear helmets.

Here's the 40k wiki page on Power Armour

Lexicanum has the same pics. Ultimately you can go with whatever you want.

The Emperor: "Wait-HOW many kids do i have again?"

Malcador: " 20. sir."

Emperor: "Ah. Good."

Malcador: "Give or take."

Emperor:" What? Bah! I'll count 'em myself. Twenty, minus two, carry the one, then there's Conrad Curze and Nighthaunter, thats two more..."

Malcador: "Conrad curze IS Night haunter, mylord!"

Emperor: "What? so just the one. But Alpharius and Omegon are two individuals?"

Malcador. "Yes."

Malcador: "I think."

Emperor: "MALCADOR!"

No no, the way hats work in the 40k universe is that as you progress in rank, your hat gets bigger and bigger, until finally you get to take your hat off, THEN maybe if you are lucky the next ultimate step is you get someone to carry your gigantic hat for you!!

:D

Yes, I lead an ENTIRE CHAPTER of Astartes. We are the DARK ANGELS!!!

Or, if you're Creed, you take the tarp off of a transport, and wear the big thing as a coat. If his coat was a hat, he'd need a crane, or a neck brace.
