Two questions: area effect and guardsman

By Ileopsoas, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest - Rules Questions

Dear FFg community, here are my two questions:

1. In which way a flying unit is affected by area effect (is the damage halved)?

2. There is a guard unit which can be put into play after another guard unit is destroyed. (sorry can't remember proper name). Do I have to pay for playing it?

P.S.:

A third question came to my mind: After the ranged combat phase ends, do the ranged unit(s) refresh?

Short awnsers (there is more to it but should be sufficient for these questions).

1. Yes. Just like normal, Flying units take half damage from non-Flying units. Note, not all damage comes from units.

2. You do not have to pay for Elysian Assault Team when it's Interrupt trigger is triggerd.

1. No. Area Of Effect is a card effect, it is not attack damage and flying only affects attack damage.

2. Elysian Assault Team, I believe you're referring to. You do not have to pay for the deployment cost for a card that is being put into play. It only needs the put into play requirement to be fulfilled.

3. No. All units refresh at the end of the combat round, regardless of whether they have ranged or not.

1. Titan is correct. Remember that the damage effect of AoE replaces a unit's combat turn/attack, but it is not considered to be "attack damage."

2. The key here is the effect says "put (the unit) into play." When that is the case, you are only dealing with the costs specified in the effect. If the effect said to "deploy" the unit (e.g., the Ambush keyword), then you would have to pay the unit's cost.

3. Remember that the Ranged Skirmish is something that happens within the first combat round of a battle, not a separate combat round in and of itself. As such, the units need to wait until the end of the combat round before they can ready. Ranged is a bit of a double-edged sword in that regard. Great attack potential in that they always get that first shot, but also some defense vulnerability because anything that survives that first shot will be coming after them.

Learn something everyday. Indeed Titan is correct, why the card suggest otherwise I do not know...

3. As mentioned, No.

Thanks to everyone really complete answers!
