Maarek Stele how will you play him

By X Wing Nut, in X-Wing

Looks good but I might try Veteran Instincts. To take any advantage of ATC, you will need a target lock. High PS makes it a lot easier to get a target lock on a ship that will actually stay in your arc.

I dont know where i sit on VI for Maarek yes it means the first round of combat your always going to have a target lock but I'm thinking there is more then just one round of combat. I think i would rather have something that gives me stronger attacks all game then making sure my first attack will have a crit that would most likley hit shields. but Vi does give him a chance to ark doge

I am feeling Predator or Lone Wolf for him more than VI I think personally, as I would want a ship shooting before him personally (and more offense means more crits actually stick)

The really hard choice for me is Vader, I love Outmaneuver+EU on him now (I've given him Homing Missiles too and that was really fun) Do I keep using outmaneuver or switch to predator for the rerolls since you can't use the TL now.

Vader i would still use Outmaneuver but Predator on Maarek I think would be the best option

I'd go for Predator or Lone Wolf on an ATC Vader. The reason the classic Vader build was Outmaneuver was because he could focus/target lock so easily, making Predator a little redundant. With the target lock now sitting on his target of choice as a critting mark of death he lacks a reroll ability.

TIE advanceds do love their pilot skill. After flying ATC Maarek against A-wings I've found that a low PS TIE advanced isn't that difficult to arcdodge. Nothing more annoying than having your enemy target locked and right up in Maarek's crosshairs and then it boost/barreling out of the way.

Is VI better for Maarek than Predator or another EPT? Situational. Is it worth using outright? Definitely.

I gotta agree it looks like the named Advanced pilots (don't forget Alozen) will like ATC a whole lot more, while the AC is better comparatively on the generics.

Everyone loves VI. Without VI we probably wouldn't have seen such a prevalence of Fat Hans. VI is what enables Whisper and Echo who would've been much more manageable if VI hadn't been an auto-include on them. That started the race to the highest PS which made everyone take another look at what they could do with Han and Goldenrod.

VI was used in 30% of the top 32 squads and 50% of the top 8. Nothing else comes close as far as I can see. You want to bring more balance to the game? Nerf VI and suddenly a lot more pilots become viable and interesting.

Though I have been known to make mistakes, from time to time.

There are 4 named advanced pilots coming.. one looks like Juno Eclipse..

To be fair some of those VIs were probably on Wes as a way to "outbid" his Wingmen (like Wedge with Opportunist)

Nope, none of them actually.

Whisper 4

Han 4

Cracken

Howlrunner

Echo

And I don't really see VI going to be less popular with Dash around.

Given the new upgrades, Vader can be a monster with either. With Maarek, I'd go with Predator since you're most likely to be using focus with him, but Vader, as you said, is more likely to use EU for arc dodging shenanigans. That being said, Lone Wolf could also be scary on him. I'd say any of the three could work with him.
