I'm beginning to think Leebo (crew) is a bit of a steal

By Funkleton, in X-Wing

When I first saw the Leebo crew card I didn't see the point, but having flown a few lists with Outriders and Falcons with EU, Leebo is beginning to look quite attractive (for a droid, I'm no robosexual)

He's half the cost of EU

I rarely need to boost more than 2 or 3 times per game so one self-induced ion effect per game is no biggie - especially if I can choose when I do it.

Ion weapons aren't that common so no major worries about triggering the ion effect when you don't want to

He leaves the upgrade slot free, opening up potential combinations with experimental interface

I've only got 1 EU card

I think about him the same way but when ever i fly a ship with a crew slot i have trouble turning away from Recon

You know, that's true. I forgot that large ships needs 2 ion tokens.....

Blasted rebels and their boosting options. =(

I think he works best on the falcon. The Yt2400 just has the one slot.

But I think Lando w/ Nien, Leebo, and Experimental Interface sounds like a fun baseline. You can Leeboost as much as you want and Nien makes the ion move green. Add an EPT and/or title to taste.

Nien makes the ion move green.

Wait, what?

Ion weapons not that common??? I need to play a game in your area. Many of my opponents use Ion-weaponry

Nien makes the ion move green.

Wait, what?

Yes he does. Just like R2.

Nien makes the ion move green.

Wait, what?

Yeah, from the FAQ:

"Nien Nunb

If a ship equipped with Nien Nunb attempts to execute

a [K-turn] maneuver but is unsuccessful, causing the

maneuver to be treated as a [straight] maneuver, Nien Nunb’s

ability does not make that [straight] maneuver green.

If ship is ionized, Nien Nunb’s ability does make the

white [ 1] maneuver green."

He and R2s take that opportunity to reboot systems.

Nien makes the ion move green.

Wait, what?

As do R2 Astromechs

Admittedly they have become more popular on the scene since I started annoying the hell out of everyone with a pair of ICT Y-Wings in 3 out of 4 of my lists - but I think I've only played 2 or 3 standard games against Ion weapons over the last couple of months

I do wish there was a way for Large ships to shed a single ion token at their leisure. Having it hang around indefinitely, until someone hits you again is kind of annoying.

Seems like if you're expecting Phantoms, ICTs on Y-Wings or HWKs would be a good idea.

As a bonus, they should make Han crash into rocks

It allready is pretty hard to ionize a Large ship if you only have one ion cannon in your list. If they could shed that Ion it would be near impossible.

If you have multiple IC's in you list your damage output will drop to much (IMO).

I would bet there's an upgrade card in the works that does just that - my guess would be a crew card

Something like:

Systems Engineer - Crew - 1pt

Action: You may remove all ion tokens from your ship, then discard this card

or for 5 points, add - for each ion token you remove recover 1 shield

I'd be flattering myself if I said that was why I use y-wings a lot - fact is I just like Y-wings :)

I don't generally overthink my lists

This sorta thing shouldn't exist, especially the latter. Ions are very rarely used as is, and giving people a hard counter to them would ensure no one would ever take ions. They're awesome in concept, but the lack of damage turns people away from them too much as is.

Problem with Leebo is that he's taking up a slot normally reserved for consistency that large turreted ships can abuse like no other. What are you getting for those 2 points you save on EU and are giving up a crew slot for?

Best I can think of his Lando with Leebo and Nien, which should make him cheap enough to fit more ships that'll benefit from the free action he grants.

Systems Engineer - Crew - 1pt

Action: You may remove all ion tokens from your ship, then discard this card

Actions get used after movement before shooting. That card is only useful on a large ship with exactly one ion token. Not worth one point.

as soon as I posted it dawned on me that the second option seemed a little under costed

But then again you are burning a crew slot in a one shot deal for five whole points - that's no small potatoes

perhaps wording the card so that you can only regain 1 shield in total and only if you remove more than one ion token might balance it better

there's 1 way I can think of to get an action once the shooting has started (cracken) * - there may be more - and if you self induce the ion using leebo you can always PTL or EI to take the second action to clear it. - trade an ion for a stress .... worth it? I dunno but it would be fun to play with

* edit - there are even ways to give an action to a ship before it reveals its dial - squad leader and Lando (pilot) for example

double edit - wouldn't work with lando

If you take a look at Leebo he does exactly that. Say you got 1 hit with an Ion. It stays on you until you leebo boost or get hit again. Sure your next move will be a 1 but it will discard the Ion tokens and best is that it will discard the ion tokens on your terms not your opponent's terms. Combined that with Nein numb and you could get rid of an EI stress.

You could also put him with Roark in an HWK, every turn, one straight, one boost. Ioning all the way.
