Since we now have a Star Destoryer(ish) no need for Armada

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

So I was going back and forth weather or not I wanted to get into Armada, but the real reason was because I like Star Destroyers. Now that we've pretty much got one in X-Wing, My mind is firmly planted here in X-Wing.

I don't see your point. Not getting both? Huh?

I never planned on getting into either Armada or Imperial Assault, and now the Raider makes sure that I stick with XWing! So I'm in the same camp!

The point is I had considered Armada but only because of the Starr Destroyer. Now I feel no need to get that, since the Raider looks 100 times better than anything Armada has.

Yeah, I still don't get it. What is this "considering not taking both" malarkey?

You are incomprehensible my good man, you speak as if there is an option, as if you'd welcome the choice.

Though I do think (not sure) that there is enough variety in both to at least dabble in Armada.

Hah! I jest! As if the plastic crack from the offices of FFG has no hold over me.

The Raider's not really a Star Destroyer...but it'll more than do

Wonder what a few Raiders look like in Armada-scale escorting some Star Destroyers.

Crabs you so crazy...

I never had plans to hit armada...Imperial Assault looks like fun...but due to budget constraints I will more than likely stick to Xwing only.

I'm too invested in X-wing to go for another product but I can understand if people want to play armada. It is a different game and people will have different preferences. If they want to play X-wing they will play X-wing, If they want to play Armada they will play Armada, and if they want to play both they can play both.

Armada will make Star Destroyers FEEL like Star Destroyers. The Raider will die too quickly in XWing for the game to feel like it has a Star Destroyer in it. Just being wedge shaped isn't enough.

Dat Galactic Battlegrounds quote.

Much more powerful power plant than the CR-90 (this one goes to six). That thing can slam the Recover brakes on majorly.

Between steam sales and FFG Xwing, my wallet can't hold anymore.

Hasnt changed my view at all. It wasn't the look of SDs that has me excited about Armada, it's the fleet action style and the frankly FANTASTIC looking rules.

No but its clever marketing as it looks enough like one to make it an impulse buy off a shelf and 'recognisably' *star wars* and enough to stylistically fit in with an imperial fleet.

I actually thought they would do the Gozanti given how much they are in 'rebels' but im very happy with this Tie advanced and raider package.

Any other small capital ship from the EU would have had a few fanboys excited , most of the hardcore players buying it if it was good in 'game' terms but other wise a lot of FLGS would have had 10 lancer class sitting on their shelves for ever.

It's not like the Raider is a Star Destroyer. It's a slice of grey pizza masquerading as a Star Destroyer. I'm with Dagonet, you're clearly not thinking right. ;)

Having played "star fleet battles" YEARS AGO.. Fleet action is not all that great.. as EVERYTHING has a 360 degree firing arc except some Klingon vessels as they like to concentrate weapons in the forward hemisphere as they don't retreat. It basically comes down to a big slug match and who's lasers are more powerful etc.granted armada looks like it has some slick movement templates dials etc. that I wish could be adapted to X-wing and to the epic ships as they look pretty cool. but what ruins it for me is its STILL grossly out of scale ship wise..

Same problem with Starfleet battles. i LIKE the larger scale of X-wing as it shows detail better. I also like the dog-fighting aspect of it.

Likewise.

Im unlikely to invest in armada as ive hundreds of pounds worth of battlefleet gothic, which is frankly one of the best games GW ever made.

I just dont need a second fleet action game.

And here I was, thinking you were sane.

IMPERIAL PIE IS IMPERIAL PIE...

We ain't to picky, if it is Imperial, and looks like a slab of Pie... then dammit we are good!

I wasn't planning on Armada anyway. So this works great for me!

I'm right there with ya!

I'm pretty much set for Star Wars gaming: Imperial Assault for the ground battles and X-wing for the space battles. Can't wait to combine the two!

Plus, I still think an epic X-wing game with a Raider duking it out with a corvette/transport will look much better than Armada.

Bigger is better!

Star Destroyer became not only a class of ships but a colloquial term to represent a ship aesthetic. This, to terrified Galactic citizens cowering in the Outer Rim territories, IS a Star Destroyer.
