Darth Vader already in an Advanced x1

By ltcwinger, in X-Wing

My friend brought this up. Vader is the only current TIE Advanced pilot in an x1...every other pilot card just says TIE Advanced. Do you think there will be an errata with him having a built in x1 upgrade?

They will just add something to the FAQ saying he can take it. I had a feeling one day Vader being in the x1 would cause this problem. If for some insane reason FFG say he can't I would be really p'ed off, but I don't see that happening.

Anyone else notice the lack of small black circle on the X/1 title? You can put the title on Darth Vader regardless.. Hell you can field a squad full of x/1's .. the only question is how many Imperial Raiders are you willing to buy?

You can only fit 4 advanceds in a standard squad, and the raider comes with 4 titles.

And the preview says Darth Vader can use the cards.

The X1 on Vaders pilot card is purely a little bit of fluff. His was the first.

That little distinction isnt even on the the Alt art card for him they gave out at Worlds so its moot point.

If he can't use the title card it also means he can't use the maneuver dial he came with either so I'm betting he can.

Non issue as there is no such thing as a an x1 movement dial, he's in an advanced he can take the title.

Oh sweet! I didn't know it came with 4 .. thank god!

The alt art card doesn't even have the ship:

So unless you went to Worlds you don't need to buy the new ship. So now the Vader Alt card will have a surge in price.

guys,

1.) The Tie Advance title is not unique, nor is the name of vader's ship. If they were the same, you could still take them together because they don't have the dot signifying them as mutually exclusive upgrades

2.) Darth flies the Tie Advance x1, while the title is Tie/x1. The names aren't the same

there's zero reason for vader not to have access to the title...so it's going to be every bit as glorious as you'd imagine :D

People seem to forget that the Royal Guard Pliots in their distinct RED interceptors can take a title card called.. Royal Guard Tie...

So, it seems reasonable that Darth can get a title that is the TIE/x1.

Not to reignite the debate as it was proven to work w vader in an earlier thread....

But I think the confusion is coming from the fact that vader flies an advanced x 1 and the card states "TIE advanced only" not tie adv and adv x1. It's not the name of the title but the stated ship restriction.

That being said if we go and reread the intro article this title clearly works w vader

Considering Vaders ship is already the X1, I'd probably not even place a title for it on his ship and just assume he always takes it. Afterall, it costs no points, only adds the upgrade slot with a cost reduction, once you remember that, for casual games of course, you don't need add more clutter to his ship. Though the other ones I'd place the titles out just for clarification sake.

Indeed... I'm in agreement here.

Ah, another RAW vs ROI moment.

RAW guys will say Vader can't take it. ROI guys will say that the upgrade was meant for every TA pilot, regardless of what it says on the card. RAW guys will respond with the "It's a permissive rules system" bullpucky again. ROI guys will counter with, "But it doesn't explicitly say, EXCEPT THE TIE X1 on it!".

Then someone in another thread will say, "Greedo shot first!", and everyone will leave to pile on the new*** and be done with it.

Let's be done with it already and let Vader have his upgrade.

So Vader has a double x1 with title ...

x1 + x1 = x1x1 or x2?

:P

I don't think ROW even has a leg to stand on.

Technically (undeniably) Vader is piloting a "Tie Advance." Says so right below his name, just before the "x1" :)

Vader isn't piloting a TIE Advanced X1. That's a multiplication symbol. It's to show that Vader is flying exactly one TIE Advanced only ;)

RAW? ROI?

Pat, can I buy a vowel?

I demand anyone saying Vader can't use it produces the x1 movement dial, because if he isn't in an advanced how have people been flying him all this time?

ROI: Typo. Should read RAI.

"Stand back! I'm going to try science!!!"*

210px-Venn_diagram_-_B_is_subset_of_A.sv

A = TIE Advanced

B = TIE Advanced X1 (i.e. Vader's TIE Advanced)

Darth Vader's TIE Advance X1 (B) belongs to the larger set of ships called TIE Advanced (A). Thus it can take the X1 title, because it is a TIE Advanced.

All B are A.

Not all A are B.

Therefore, Darth Vader can take the X1 title.
