Non-random stats

By cetiken, in Dark Heresy House Rules

So I'm looking to get started and me and my group are finding the random stat generation method annoying. Has there been an officall or player generated system of point buy for stats?

Nope. But if you want a point-based system you could just multiply the statistical average one would roll with 2d10's by nine (one for every stat), and then say that each player have that many points to spend on their stats in any way they see fit, adding the home world specific stats.

The average result for rolling 2d10's is 11 if im not mistaken, so 99 points to spend in addition to home world specific statbonuses (like a Hive Worlder who normally get 25 + 2d10 for Fellowship, where other people normally get 20 + 2d10 instead).

How does that sound?

Well,

I used a simular formula.

9x11 = 99, I added 11 to represent their above average potential, so I gave them 110 points, for above average characters you can give them 120 points, anything above that is too much.
Now hope they will spend those points wisely, if they min max attack them on their weak spots....scratch that, always attack them on their weak spots.
Since I run a tough campaign I also gave them max wounds.

Or you can do like our group do. Roll 2d10 nine times and write down the results. Re-roll one of those results if you want to. Then allocate the different results to whichever stat you want. Still some random element but a bit more control over which stats get the higher results and which ones get the lower ones...

How about substituting the +2d10 with a +10 on each characteristic except for three: +20 x 1 and +15 x 2. This way you don't get the extreme min/max, and the characters get a field of expertise without being completely useless in all others.
