Seeking Knowledge: The True Jedi Knight (Spoilers)

By Josep Maria, in General Discussion

Cool title right? XD

Hi everyone!

After reading this http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=273&esem=1 and also the Beta book itself explanations, we have the (almost) clear answer that:

THERE ARE NO JEDI ON F&D... at least a pure one XD

So, I picked up two NPC's that are true Jedi. Their "special abilities" can be attributed to the fact that "they are NPC's" or just because that are Jedi and follow another rules?

Here are the samples I refer.

- Jedi-in-hiding (Age of Rebelion - low profile padawan maybe?): These one has NO exceptions, (no Parry/Reflect possible to evade spoilers from F&D or because has low training?) but the next one...

- Elaiza, Jedi in Exile (Pure Jedi) - Her skills are common too, lacks of talents like Parry or other ones (again, possible to evade spoilers from F&D XD) but her powers are interesting...

Her powers are improved. Can do the same that a player can do, but at a lower cost.

- Move: With just one FP, can move up to two sil 1 objects uo to medium range and attack with it. (Normally this would cost 3 FP).

- On the Edge: Once per Force check, may suffer 1 Strain to use on DS FP to generate LS FP.

Do you believe that in Elaiza's abilities is the essence of a pure Jedi or it's just a "fast rule" only for NPC's?

Maybe the Signature abilities from F&D will have this expansion?

Posts please :D

I'm pretty sure we can have Jedi if we want, Josep. The movies don't have any because that's kinda the point of the movies, but the EU has tons of Force-sensitive characters in this era, from Prune Face to that giant lamprey who was dating a werewolf (kinda makes you wonder why they even bothered with Luke!). The F&D book and the adventures all have FS characters, some of them actual Jedi.

Or you could run a game set in some other time period. In our game, set in the movie era, there are tons of Jedi (all of them complete as*holes) and they are the main antagonists of the game. Some of our F&D PCs are former Jedi who went apostate, some are just adepts from smaller traditions.

In terms of mechanics, a lot of NPCs have 'shortcut' abilities like Adversary which simulate certain PC Talents for NPCs for ease of use. I'm guessing Eliza's abilities in JoY are something like that.

(Also Josep, did you get the Beta book I sent? I'm astonished that it got lost from here in the UK to Spain.)

Elaiza, Forsaken Jedi, and Jedi in Hiding are more of just the way they are to both make shortcuts and provide a decent challenge. Although things like missing Parry and Reflect are more of just because at the time, the talents/rules haven't been created or thoroughly tested yet.

Going forward - at least in FaD content, it's highly likely that all future force-sensitives, be they labeled as official Jedi or not, will probably be much like the Inquisitors where they've got some shortcuts (like Parry and Reflect not costing strain), but things played like a normal PC (Force Powers). And this could be different from AoR/EotE content where they may decide to keep things like Elaiza in the future and keep things simpler since it's less likely the whole party will be force users and will be calling BS at an NPC's ability to do things infinitely easier than the player themselves are capable of.

I HATE SPANISH POSTAL SYSTEM XD

I have to go one morning to the office (closed after 13.00h) and it's a bit difficult. I hope that still there or at least give me an explanation. Again, thanks Marcy :)

About the post, yep, I know that it's possible to simulate almost anything, but I was trying to put in developers mind and know what do you think about those NPC's special rules.

Are Jedi rules or NPC's rules?

they are NPC rules.

Using strain to convert Dark to Light really does make perfect sense, especially when you consider the ratio of the Force die. This would also account for all the Powers use you see in stuff like the Clone Wars without these guys ending up totally Darkside.

I tend to think this is more of a Jedi rule rather than an NPC one. It would certainly make using Powers a lot simpler and safer. For game balances though, it would most likely give force users an advantage, one the devs would probably not be too eager to put into play.

Maybe we'll see an "Advanced Practices of the Jedi" or something similar in an upcoming release after all.

A New Hope kriffed

Oh, absolutely. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. When you've saved the world as many times as they have, it's easy to convince yourselves that everything you do is pure and right, and anyone who disagrees with you are automatically the Bad Guys.
