New pilot

Hello everyone.

I was curious about that game and willing to try it.

First buy is indeed the base game, but to "test" the game a little i was thinking of the imperial and rebel aces boxes. As first purchqse is worth it? AT the Moment i just wish to play AT home with a friend, and i wish a few more ships to add variety, i thought this should gave me enough different ship and card to try out the game with more depth in respect to just the base box. Any advice?

Thanks a lot.

Daniel

There are a lot of fun pieces in those boxes, but they don't add a lot to the pieces in the base set. If you want to mix it up, I say go for it. If you want to build on what you've got, there are other options that might be a better place to start.

If you buy both the aces packs you'll have almost doubled the ships you can field, so if you want larger squads on both sides it is a good place to start.

You'll get a feel for three fifths of the rebel ships (this includes the falcon) in the movies.

The imperials will get less variety, but the ships are decent.

I'll probably be ninjad as I wrote this but look into a second core as well- more ships and extra dice and templates.

Also the tie and xwing expansions are defiantly worth getting early on.

I caution about the purchase of a second core set - while there IS value, i find the repeates material a waste, personally, and would prefer to spend money on things that are different. Plus, as more aces type packs come out, and I bet there will be more, the extra value in another core set is lessened.

Right now, I think it's a great idea to pick up Rebel Aces and Imperial Aces, mostly because both are easy to find and provide a lot of interesting options.

But really, anything you can get your hands on is going to bring something fun to your games.

A second core set is great if you're providing all of the materials for two players. The extra movement templates and range rulers will be handy. You will definitely want an extra set of dice eventually. But aside from all that, the core set is usually the most affordable way to acquire three ships. The game is really fun when you can field about 100 points of ships per side, so an extra core set is a decent way to help get there.

Normally I would suggest picking up the TIE Fighter and X-Wing expansions (just one of each) as your first purchase after the core set, but they can be hard to find right now so wait until they're restocked.

A core set and one of each aces is a good way to get 'warmed up' with the game, and gives both players plenty of options at 50 points. One more expansion of each faction, and 100 point games should be possible, but might require you to use all models depending on which expansions you buy.

The bonus of an extra core set is that you pay $30 which is what 2 TIEs and an X-Wing booster would cost, but then you'd get all of the accouterments that accompany the core set, like extra dice/range ruler/damage cards/etc., also. Buying the aces sets are also cost effective, if you snag them for $20, since again, you're getting your money's worth for just the models plus bonuses. If you can keep your costs at or under $10/model, you're doing fine. Beyond that, I'd say buy what looks cool and play with it!
