Autothruster and Darth Vader's TIE Fighter

Does the Advanced really need Autothrusters? It's always been my understanding that the reason it rarely sees the table is because of its low threat value. It can deal damage equal to its cost, so you can safely ignore it. With two shield over three hull, protected by three green dice (and Focus/Evade by Vader), it's actually very solid on defense.

Fair point. Of course, if the ship gets fixed then it's going to become a more high priority target for people. Also, due to its low damage output per attack, it needs to stick around longer to do damage. I suppose the most relevant metric is damage output over survivability.

I like the idea I had in another thread - add boost to the action bar, but with special rules like allowing you to use the speed two templates, or the speed one turn. No idea how you'd justify it fluff wise, but then as far as I'm concerned the only canon fluff is Vader getting his arse kicked by Han Solo!

A title that switches one hit to a crit when on offence. Would at least make Maarek solid

I would love to see a modified X1 ship card for Vader that allowed 2 modifications, and for Vader's pilot card to allow 2 EPTs. A few more green arrows on his dial is also fitting. However I'm still worried about ships with only 2 attack dice. 3 red dice seems to be a must anymore and Vader should be more intimidating than just 2 attack dice.

I would love to see a modified X1 ship card for Vader that allowed 2 modifications, and for Vader's pilot card to allow 2 EPTs. A few more green arrows on his dial is also fitting. Here is another idea, Tie Advanced only modification.

Boosted Tie Cannon. The name poped in mind from an older card game. (I still prefer this over the LCG)

So here is my idea Modification Tie Advanced only.

When Attacking at Range 1 increase the firepower of your primary weapon by 1.

Point cost 4.

A barrel roll that was 2 range rather that 1, would be kinda cool for the advanced. Make for some fun positioning.

Ooh, I like that! How about merge it with the upgrade I suggested that allows you to use the speed two templates for boost (while also adding boost to your action bar)? I reckon that, at 0 points, might completely fix the ship.

I was gonna say blank result to a crit, but any means you can use your actions to manoeuvre instead of focus, which kinda makes up for the less impressive dial, effectively making the ship more manoeuvrable while also making it more scary, which it needs. That could be pretty awesome. Similar to allowing Accuracy Correcter, but different, and different is good.

I'm still very strongly (perhaps more strongly) inclined to take Engine Upgrade as the modification, and I think maybe Daredevil takes a boost as your EPT of choice: you're going to keep the target lock for several turns, so upgrades that help you keep the same ship in arc become more available, right?

All I'll say is that I regularly flew Vader before the new upgrade cards made it cool.

Engine Upgrade, Daredevil, and Cluster Missiles are what I currently run on my Vader. I can see myself dropping the missiles and adding these two cards for a difference of just +1 point. Sounds like a fun build to try.

EDIT: I didn't realize at first that the title decreases the cost of the systems upgrade. That's even better!

I think so. I just knocked this up, which should actually be quite good for a 5 second attempt:

Vader + Predator, Engine Upgrade, Title, Adv. Targeting computer

Tempest Squadron + Title, Accuracy corrector

Tempest Squadron + Title, Accuracy corrector

Tempest Squadron + Title, Accuracy corrector

Thats 6 guaranteed hits from the Tempests, after Vader shoots to strip tokens. He gets 2 dice + re-roll from predator, + focus, + auto extra crit. 3 dice at close range.

I think im going to get Marksmanship out of mothballs for vader now. With Advanced Targeting Computer you get a high chance of 2 crits per turn.

Marksmansip is going to be great too, yep. Honestly, he suddenly got so much potential...i'll be brainstorming ideas for days now.

Vader with Engine Upgrade, Lone Wolf and Proton Rockets was pretty fun before. With a free Advanced Sensors he'll be slippery as hell, and with Sensor Jammer he'll be nigh unkillable.

I don't understand - why does this make marksmanship any better? Surely your EPT is still better spent on an actionless improvement like Lone Wolf or Predator, so that you can make the most of your barrel roll (and boost if you have Engine Upgrade)?

My reasoning behind marksmanship is that with Adv Target Computer, you cannont use yor TL for rerolls so you need at the very least a focus. Marksmanship in this case wpuld be very powerfull. Though I do think predator would be very good as well. Someone else will have to do the maths on it (I suspect predator to be slightly better).

I just mention marskmanship because this breaths life into a card not played since wave one.

I play Marksmanship now and then, such as when your Ewing is going to attack twice in one turn, or when your Firespray pilot loves dealing crits, but I don't see how it's any better with ATC than without. That extra crit has no effect (and isn't affected by) the results of your red dice, so why is Marksmanship relevant?

How potent are Proton Rockets going to be with this upgrade?! Your Tempest Sq. Pilot would be sitting at 25 points, and be dangerous even after launching ordnance. Man, so many cool options!
