Dual Phantom Lists

By 7falcon7wings7, in X-Wing

While I am unlikely to field two Phantoms on the tournament scene, I am still curious as to how to make a competitive list that includes two of these little "Tridents of Doom". Here's one I have come up with, and was wondering what else you all can think of.

  • "Echo" (30)

-Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

-Veteran Instincts (1)

-Fire Control Systems (2)

  • Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)

-Fire Control Systems (2)

-Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

  • Soontir Fel (27)

-Push the Limit (3)

-Targeting Computer (2)

These would most likely fly separately, with the Sigma pilot occasionally providing support to Soontir or Echo. Again, I'm bringing this up more for the challenge of making a dual phantom list work. Thanks for your input!

awesome. I'd play it. Id take autothrusters or hull over targetting.

Drop FCS on the Sigma.

"Whisper" (32)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)

Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

Soontir Fel (27)

Push the Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

Stealth Device (3)

Royal Guard TIE (0)

Total: 99

Soontir in this build will last a long time against turrets and give you a much better chance of winning that fight.

Four naked Sigmas. #YOLO...Right before your lit on fire by your opponents burning gaze of hate. Would rather have super Vader in place of the sigma or a tactician in there. Looks obnoxious enough.

You know what,... it's four in the morning...I, should sleep. I'm sorry -_-

Whisper

Whisper

- Veteran Instincts

- Advanced Cloaking Device

Echo

- Veteran Instincts

- Advanced Cloaking Device

- Rebel Captive

Omicron Group Pilot

- Darth Vader

99 points, 1 point PS bid. Echo gets the Captive, due to her lower PS and Whisper's free focus, while the shuttle provides a tough ancor that'll wreak far more havoc than a TIE fighter if left ignored.

*Advanced Cloaking Device

Echo

*Advanced Cloaking Device

Omicron Group Pilot

*Engine Upgrade

*Fire Control System

99 points. EU helps the shuttle stay in the fight, while FCS helps the shuttle with action economy.

Im working on something very similar to this bu its Soontir instead of Whisper. It works, but i often find myself struggling against beefy Falcons.

I've been having fun with something like that too:

Soontir Fel

- Push the Limit

Echo

- Veteran Instincts

- Advanced Cloaking Device

- Recon Specialist

Omicron Group Pilot

- Engine Upgrade

- Advanced Sensors

- Ion Cannon

99 points. Maybe it would be better to doom the shuttle, but I like the speed and mobility of this one.

Whisper (VI, ACD, FCS, Gunner)

Echo (VI, ACD, FCS, Recon Spec)

Dark Curse

100 points

I've watched a whisper/echo combo get slain by 3x swarm tactics a wings and Roark. It's not as strong as you think.

If the store group really IS going to use a 90 point cap at the first Store event in JAN (to make it so that new players can join in without having to buy to much...?)

Iam tempted to try this out:

Echo AND Whisper both decked out with

-veteran instincts -gunner -firecontrol system -advanced cloacking device

total 86 ptns I think

I would be 4 points under tho, I guess I'll always have initiative! :D

(and die horribly :( )

It's funny that I searched for threads about Phantoms for a completely different reason, and ran across this one anyway, considering that the Phantoms that Nikk's anecdote is referring to were mine. As legendary as that has become around our group, I want a rematch of that fight when I'm taking the game seriously enough to at least read over the list in advance to see if there's anything nasty in store for me. I wouldn't have parked in front of the whole squad had I realized that they were all shooting at PS12.

That, and I was so impressed by it that I tried to copy down the list, and entering it into a squad builder I found his list was slightly over 100 points as he played it that day. Knowing the player decently well, I know it wasn't intentional, but it still gives me my honor back. :D

Back on to the core topic of multiple Phantoms, in general I disagree with it now. If you have more than one arc-dodger in your list, you're just asking to get eaten alive by turrets. But in spite of that fact, and the current prevalence of turrets, I do still love my Phantoms, and I've got something really nasty in store with them that I'm bursting at the seams with and trying my best not to publicize widely until after I can use it in a tournament or three.

I find turrets less of a problem than I do ships with 10-12 pilot skill.

I really like the dual Phantom lists. I recently played a 200-point match using this:

- Whisper (VI, ACD, FCS, Gunner)

- Echo (VI, ACD, FCS, Recon Spec)

- Boba Fett (VI, HLC, Recon Spec)

- Rexler Brath (Predator, HLC, Hull Upgrade)

- Dark Curse

200 points

I faced the following:

- Han (VI, Gunner, Dash, Engine Upgrade, Millenium Falcon)

- Leebo (Lone Wolf, HLC, Recon Spec, Outrider)

- Blue x3

- Bandit x2

200 points

So, two turrets... and lots of health on the Rebel side. I still managed to win. I lost only Dark Curse and Whisper. The game lasted about 2 hours. I was able to destroyed Han (who at that point had lost 2-3 shields only) in 1 round by concentrating fire. That helped greatly, as he was the biggest threat.

Did you have something to say or did you just want to cry about your loss. Oh and I can't wait for your ground breaking Phantom build. Come on man, it's just x-wing.

One of my favorite lists to feature 2 Phantoms is:

Whisper

+ ACD

+ VI

+ FCS

Soontir Fel

+ PTL

+ Target CPU

Sigma Squadron Pilot

+ Stygium Particle Accelerator

+ Enhanced Scopes

+ Intelligence Agent

100pts

It's really just a Whisper + Fel list that uses KineticOperator's Sigma build as support. When fielding 2 PS 9, arc dodging ships, I definitely like this Sigma much more than things like Doom Shuttles. I mean, the Sigma does similar damage as the Doom Shuttle, AND is mobile, not to mention it provides a great blocking tool to take on either Swarms or other PS 9 arc dodging ships. The problem I've always had when running a slow ship with my fast ships is that the slow ship, if not incredibly defensive, gets focused and killed, even by the lowly 2 dice support ships. The Sigma with Intel is capable of avoiding focus fire very well, which makes sense with the theme of the list.

It's "just a game" but you feel the need to bait someone you've never met over it? Get a grip, please.

Just tried this list tonight:

2x Sigma + tactician + sensor jammer + stygium

Carnor Jax + PTL + Targeting + Stealth

The one lucky crit my opponent landed first turn? The one that negates your pilot ability and EPT (he hit Carnor). After turn one his decimator had 6 health left (lots of lucky crits from the phantoms). Then I made the mistake of going after his firespray. It went south pretty quick after that, but the list has a lot of fun stuff in it! I'll definitely try it again soon.

Whisperer + FCS + ACD + VI (39)

Echo + FCS + ACD + VI + Recon (40)

Tempest Squadron + x1 + Corrector (21)

= 100

I tried this list:

Whisper, ACD, Intel agent

Echo, ACD, rebel captive

2x academy pilots

(not 100% sure of the list, there was a few extra points spent, fairly sure there was at least one FCS in there, no VI though as I don't own any)

Was up against a VI dash and chewie list, so a potential bad match up, and lost one academy early on due to flying it into range 3 of dash, but after that I was completely in control. Whisper's Intel agent told the academy pilot where to fly to block the enemy ship while echo flanked and caused problems and stressed ships out if they targeted her. It was a really effective list in that one game and I can't wait to try it again.

I'm not taking anything away from that guy who won a tourney with four Sigmas, but that was during the Wave IV meta and he didn't run into any large turreted ships. These days, with stress everywhere and two more large turreted ships, four Sigmas is not as nasty as it used to be.
