Mix and match FFG Star Wars games?

By Cannis0013, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

This has been brought up in the Armada forum but I was wondering if anyone here has considered making their Assault games dependent on Armada/X-Wing events?

I was thinking along the lines of having a rebel fleet try to break an Imperial blockade in Armada. Then try to land a shuttle under X-Wing escort while being harassed by Tie Fighters in X-Wing and finally (if they succeed in those first two missions) get into a facility to get secret information in Imperial Assault.

The Imperial Player would have similar objectives to cripple Rebel ship (Armada), land a shuttle having to get past the protecting rebel fighters(X-Wing) Then boarding the ship and capturing the captain (Imperial Assault).

Any thoughts?

Great idea for a weekend event, or an all day event. The only problem is it would require that the people involved be familiar with all 3 games. I haven't met too many who are really interested in all 3. Most are either fans of X-Wing and Imperial Assault, or X-Wing and Excited about Armada. Those who are in the X-Wing/Imperial Assault boat, seem to have a sour taste in their mouth for Armada... based on my interactions with people.

i love this Idea! Hope to see some ideas fleshed out and put here on the forums

Hmmm... I was unaware of any bad feelings between games/gamers. I would have thought that this idea would be a natural consideration. I know my gaming group will at least try it. But we are a large group with some very eccentric players... Our love of Star Wars does not end with one element of the experience, be it cap ships, fighters or ground combat.

We want it all **** it!

and we will have it :)

I was just wondering if there were others considering the same thing and what ideas they might bring to the table.

This idea of combining the different games has been brought up before. There has also been talk of incorporating the RPG into the scenario as well. I think it is definitely do-able, though I wouldn't know exactly where to start...and it would also likely be different for each group.

As for sour tastes in peoples' mouths about different games...that's the first I've heard of it. I play and enjoy X-Wing a bit, but I haven't really looked into Armada. That's mostly a financial reason for me: it seems like a lot of the gameplay and mechanics for the two games are quite similar: maneuver dials, range rulers, etc. Obviously the scale is different and Armada has command cards or orders or something, but from the little bit that I've read about Armada, I think I've got most of it already in X-Wing. But I can't imagine a sour taste in one gamer's mouth because of another game. Gamers can be a fickle bunch, I guess.

Some in my group (myself included) are already planning on tweaking an RPG so that we can drop in games of all three whenever its appropriate.

Don't think that its leaving a sour taste in people's mouths as much as few people have bottomless wallets to support to their liking both X-Wing and Armada upon release. I, personally, have invested too much $$ in X-Wing to take any interest in buying Armada. I'll play it if someone has it, but won't be putting a dime into it, will continue to stick with X-Wing, especially now that the prices for Armada are clearer...just too expensive to support both to my level of interest in either.

Sort of Empire at War type thing would be great;

Unofficial Galactic Campaign

Edge of the Empire (Age of Rebellion & Force and Destiny) RPG for character development/interaction

Armada for fleet scale system battles

X-Wing for dog fighting

Imperial Assault for ground skirmish

then toss in some resource management using all of the above... I only wished that there had been some forethought in the product development schedule that allowed for easier cross contamination of the games.

...ouch my aching wallet.
