Disney Logo on Imperial Assault Box

By patox, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Wondering why the Disney logo is showing up on the Imperial Assault box.

Historically, Disney doesn't use it's main logo on a lot of its sub-brands. For example, Marvel, ABC and ESPN. You don't see the Disney logo on any of their merchandise. The Disney logo shows up on more princess-type stuff.

Anyone know what's up?

It's just starting, on Gencon it was also shown on the LCG box.I was pretty sure the Disney logo was on some recent Avengers things I purchased I'll have to go check.

Could it be that, since Disney paid so much to buy the license, that they're going to start branding their name with all of the new Star Wars products? It seems like a pretty straight-forward decision, from a marketing standpoint.

On games you usually do see the Disney label, video games especially. Club Penguin, Pure, etc. As far as tabletop goes they are starting to paste it since the buyout. Empire vs. Rebellion has it on the back which is a newer game.

The Light Side

" When $4.1 Billion you have spend, above subtle product placement, you will not be !"

and the Dark Side

The Mouse Awakens

US$4.1 billion is a ridiculously low amount for LucasFilm. Lucas was swindled.

Disney for their merchandising licenses alone, generates US$40.9 billion a year. And Star Wars is the #2 licensed entertainment property overall with $1.48 billion per year.

Just to compare, Disney paid $7.4 billion for Pixar in 2006.

The new Star Wars movies alone will probably have worldwide box office totals exceeding $2 billion each.

But the LucasFilm logo holds much more clout than the Disney logo for the Star Wars customer base. I'm not sure why they would want to use the Disney logo over the LucasFilm logo.

I don't know it's around the same number they bought marvel for. I'm pretty sure that license is about equivalent nowadays.

Both it and Lucas have been showing up on products for a little while now. Why it's even an issue is beyond me. Disney bought Lucas, can put its logo wherever it wants IMO as long as the products are good who cares?

Wondering why the Disney logo is showing up on the Imperial Assault box.

Turns out that George Lucas actually sold the entire company to them for something like 4 Billion dollars..... You heard it here first!

He means why put a brand name with juvenile connotations on the box? It'd sell just as well without the logo and they still get the money if it sells.

US$4.1 billion is a ridiculously low amount for LucasFilm. Lucas was swindled.

I'd say Lucas probably wanted to get rid of it, given how he's mercilessly abused for making three slightly less highly acclaimed films than his first three.

The same reason we see Disney logos on a lot of marvel products and other things. Cross promotion is good with quality products.

what is huffington post??? do they have an agenda??

(sorry, I must live under a rock)

Disney paid $4.1 billion for Lucasfilm. They will probably make $4.1 billion on Star Wars 7 merchandising alone.

Star Wars has generated over $27 billion in revenue.

For a benchmark, Disney paid $7.4billion for Pixar when Pixar movies at the time had only grossed $3.78 billion worldwide.

It would've been nice for Lucas to have gotten $8 billion or $12 billion and for that sum to have been donated to charity.

If Lucas wanted 8 million he could have held out, we don't have to feel sorry for the guy. I like that this thread was resurrected from December randomly to bring up the same arguments.

He didn't get swindled, he gave them a deal because they were who he felt he could trust with his legacy. He's a savvy enough businessman to know that if the money was what he cared about, he could've opened it up to Fox and WB and let them and Disney fight the mother of all bidding wars.
