Credits aren't an issue, so right now I'm trying to decide what would be the best possible weapon for.my Droid Hired Gun Heavy to use? I've dabbled with multiple ideas, ranging from a Heavy Blaster Rifle with underbarrel grenade/missile launcher to a Sidewinder Light Repeating Blaster, to a tricked out Bowcaster, but haven't quite been able to decide which I would want. Any suggestions on which would be my best bet?
Ideal weapon for a Heavy
You could always go for the classic laser minigun, the Sidewinder (its in Dangerous Covenants, which I assume that you have because it contains the Heavy specialisation) I made a heavy and it's his weapon of choice. I know you already have that down, I just think that the Sidewinder is a good weapon for Heavies
Edited by SirSprinklesPick the tools for the job really.
Missile launcher for anti-vehicle work
Grenade launcher for dealing with dug-in infantry
Heavy Blaster rifle for long ranged shooting people
Carbine + GL or flamethrower for close-in conditions like inside bases, starships etc
LR-Blaster when holding ground, static engagements at range
Flame projector, jungles, bunker clearing, general terror
Plus you'll want a pistol, couple of pockets full of grenades for everyday wandering around and backup
Sadly the best weapon for a heavy is not in the game yet - the Stouker Concussion Rifle.

If it's not in the game (and therefore lacks offical stats) how can you know it's the best weapon for a heavy?
If credits are not a restriction: buy all the guns, cycle them, then sell off the ones that don't appeal to you for excess cash. Spend that cash to upgrade the guns you kept.
The Flechette Launcher is pretty awesome. Just sayin'. Carry around a couple anti-infantry
and
anti-vehicle rounds, and you've essentially got two weapons for the price of one
And with a Damage 8, Blast 8, and Pierce 6, you might not even
need
that backup sidearm
I'm leaning most towards a Sidewinder, but ideally I would like to have a very customized weapon. His sidearm is a heavy blaster pistol and that is what he will use on "non-combat" scenarios where heavy fighting isn't expected but ideally I would like his "main" weapon to be something of an all-comers type of deal, able to deal large amounts of damage to most threats. While I like the image of the Sidewinder, I'm not sure if it fits into that category, and while I do plan on using Gunnery(the droid is also a Pilot and pilots a starfighter) I am not sure I want Gunnery to be my focus on this character.

Some things to consider:
Sidewinder pros
- cool
- good damage
- It's cool
- auto fire
- did i mention it's cool?
Sidewinder cons
- it's heavy
- no way by RAW to improve damage
- Cannot use at engaged range
- uses gunnery skill (could go pro if that is your focus)
- it's restricted
Heavy repeating blaster pros
- Best damage in the game
- Scary to be on the other side of it
- Able to reach extreme range
- auto fire
- Grenade/missile launcher under the barrel is not needed
Heavy repeating blaster cons
- no way to upgrade damage per RAW (not really an issue but still)
- takes up lots of encumbrance
- uses gunnery skill
- cannot be used while engaged
- restricted
Heavy blaster rifle pros
- Not restricted
- auto fire
- by RAW very good damage potential with upgrades
- cheap
- light (by comparison)
- low rarity so easy to find and easy to find repair parts
- add a grenade/missile launcher under the barrel
- not a gunnery weapon (can go either way)
- can be used while engaged
heavy blaster rifle cons
- not really cool unless you put a story behind it
- not scary, not even a little (until you kill a Rancor in one round with it)
- to compete in damage you will need to add an augmented spin barrel with several mods requiring some very difficult mechanics checks
I have limited my thoughts to what I consider the three best blaster weapons currently available in the books. The flechette launcher mentioned earlier can go a couple ways. You can have a ton of fun killing the heck out of all the enemies regardless of who or what they are (even tie fighters). Or you kill the heck out of everything everyone gets pissed because there is nothing else to kill (kind of the point of a heavy but still) and your GM tries to find a way to get around your awesomeness.
If you are looking for rule of cool then go with the Sidewinder. If you are looking for most damage and you care nothing about what the storm troopers and planetary defense force go with the heavy repeating blaster. If you want massive firepower with out drawing attention to yourself go for the heavy blaster rifle (bowcaster could fit this role as well).
This is all from memory as my books are not in front of me.
Edited by Satchmo72I've always been partial to the grenade launcher, variable ammo makes up for lot in terms of raw damage.
Stun, High ex, Plasma, Incendiary so many flavours.
Grenades are cool but they take up one encumbrance each. If your GM does not track encumbrance they are a great option, however if you have to carry a primary weapon, backup weapon, rations, armor, scanner, goggles, datapad, breath mask, synth rope, and a com-link there is not a great deal of room for extra grenades even using a backpack and an utility belt.

A weapon is a tool, get the one you need for the job. The best hydrospanner in the galaxy won't help you at all if you need power drill.
I can speak from experience, in my group, we have a wookie sharpshooter that can throw out 20 base damage per hit with his bow caster on auto-fire due to talents. I believe he also has some good pierce, too. At least one +1.
And my bounty hunter only does 10 damage or so with his carbine and blades, but I've spec'd him out to crit like a beast. So you don't need the biggest flashiest gun in the world to put the serious hurt on your enemies. You can spec with talents and get gunnery-class damage out of ranged heavy and light, or spec out easy crits and become a force that blasts off the big bad guys arm with one point of damage dealt.
My suggestion is just to go with the gun you like the mental image of your character wielding the most, and have fun with it. For everything you can't take down with your main gun, there's grenades for that.

I’d vote for Thermal Detonators or Starship weapons. Just sayin’
...or Thermal Detonator bolas!

If credits are not an issue you have to go for the missile launcher of course! Damage 20, Breach 1... No group of minions will resist a single shot of this weapon, regarding nemesis... neither
It has other good things like Blast 10 and Critic 2, but compare to damage 20 and breach 1 it is secondary.

Just don't try to use it on anything heavier than a speeder bike.
I ended up going with a DH-X Heavy Blaster Rifle with laser sight, multispec optics, and underbarrel flame-projector as his primary weapon. A Z50 Grenade Launcher serves as his secondary weapon, and a DL-7H Heavy Blaster Pistol(reskinned as something else) with BAM is his sidearm.
Sasha.
Sorry I couldn't resist.
But the fleshette laucher sounds pretty good.
Have fun with it DJ. It's a great weapon that still has a Star Wars feel to it.

True
Still it is better than any other personal scale weapon.

Sidewinder just so you can live out your Rambo/Heavy power fantasy
"RUN, RUN IM COMING FOR YOU! WEEEEEEEHHHHH, WAAAAAAAAHHHHH! CRY SOME MORE!"
other reasons to use a sidewinder: its cool
Id say if you spun up one of those things at some thugs or stormtroopers thats a fear check they have to make
He just spent more on ammo then he spent on the gun.
