I have this weird notion that shipments in winter actually get here sooner than shipments in summer. This is owes either to my pattern-recognizing brain creating meaning from random signals, _or_ the current push boats faster this time of year.
If I'm right, we could hope to be playing with Wave 6 by January.

Guangzhou is another large port, many things ship out from there. Are we certain that they cross the Pacific? I'm not familiar with common trade routes, if it reaches the States on the West Coast isn't it more difficult to ship everything to the East coast, where they start shipping to the rest of the world?
There's this boat, going through Singapore and to NY, left 23November, arrives 22December.
Long Beach/Los Angeles is my guess for destination port for Wave 6. This is purely speculation, but I'm guessing it takes longer for a ship to go around the Panama Canal than for a cargo train to cross the US.

I don't think they ship directly from China to Europe, I think it goes through the US first. I think someone mentioned this on the forums at some point when we were waiting for wave5. In this case, it would make sense to receive the shipment in NY and then ship it to Europe and the rest of the States.

I would assume it makes as much sense as toyotas coming through the same port. World shipping trades is not my thing but it does show things come through that port that you wouldn't expect.

Well, most of the times a new wave is available in Europe two weeks after I see posts containing: ´Jay! I have my new....´ from people in the US.
I believe the cards in German and French (and I assume Spanish?) are made in Europe.
But all the miniatures are from China as far as I´ve heard.
Might be the container goes from China to the South, get´s overstacked in Singapore and then get´s transported to the Suez Canal and then onwards to the US. Maybe some containers branch of towards Europe, but get delayed due to combining the products from China with the parts produced in Europe?
Many theories. Also adding more potential shipping lanes. 
Something with needle in haystacks comes to mind, but it is fun to do while waiting.

Well, in terms of fuel efficiency (Person miles per gallon), shipping (340) is far more efficient than trains (190.5) which are far more efficient than aircraft (42.6) which are far more efficient than 18-wheeler trucks (32.2). So, using this as a rough guide, for similar fuel expenditures, you could ship something via ship 1.78 times farther than by train (or 7.9 times farther than by air). And that could help explain why shipping companies want to sea shipping as far as possible.

Actually FL ports don't even rank in the top 10 for imports. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ports_in_the_United_States I imagine car companies have very very good shipping incentives to use specific ports because you really can't fit that many cars in a container. Thus they use a whole lot more containers.
It is almost certainly not going to California as there is a shipping strike going on. Shipping time is about 30 days from China to US. Customs and such can sometimes take a week or so, then driving the containers to their distribution center is another few days. It can be even longer if the container is broken up and shipped LTL (less than truck load).
Shipping costs are significantly lower than what you might expect too. We're talking $2,000 per container for Houston-Shanghai, but that's just for the ocean vessel. Add pickup/delivery and it jumps to $5,000, maybe more, maybe less based on where it's being picked up / delivered to. But in either case, it is an extremely low cost based on the value of the shipment. Just think how many starvipers can fit in a container. Of course, it doesn't include import tax either.
-I do a small amount of oceanic shipping and domestic FTL (full truck load) shipping, so I'm sure even my numbers are higher

So my initial guess might be correct. Ship to NY -> customs -> distribution centre (mark as shipping now on site) -> send to rest of the world.

O dear, you have me at a loss here... I never really looked at the advanced editor feature and I am afraid I have no idea what BB code is...
