Why Was This Thread Locked?

Did you not see the post by the mod?

Probably because this is a forum for discussing X-wing Miniatures, not talking about why your poor attempt at satire thread was locked, which is why this thread talking about why a thread was locked is probably going to be locked as well. Even discussing Star Wars in general is slightly off-topic. Complaining about getting warnings for making in poor taste parody threads is so far off base it really shouldn't need to be explained.

Actually, no. In my haste, from my phone, I missed it. Thanks.

Considering how many OT threads there are lately, I'm surprised they don't crack down more.

That would require someone at corporate to check the forums more than once a week. I think some intern has to do it on his lunch break.

That's why I made a thread several days ago with the proposal of having a few regular users here get mod status. I think it could be very beneficial.

Yes this is a forum about X-Wing graciously provided by FFG.

Yes the topic in question was laced with much sarcasm ,some directed at people who are easily offended. But was started because of someone getting a warning point that has much more to do with the forum than allot of other posts that have been allowed to stay around and not be locked.

That said yes we need better moderators than we currently have. But the thought of some "regular" users getting those privileges seems to be a recipe for more drama than we have. I've seen enough disagreement/rivalry from some "regulars" to make me think that would not be a wise idea.

It wouldn't that be hard for FFG to screen potential people who want to moderate. They could first check to see that they are pretty active, regular posters, and then do some background checks on their previous posts to see if they mainly contribute in a positive way, or if they often deride threads, or make negative comments, or whatever. I think ideally you'd have 2 for the main xwing forum, then 1 for each of the side forums (rules, battle reports, etc).

IMO the better way is have the Potentials have a contact with FFG and then they check it and lock it. That way the regulars can get things locked but they stay anonymous to the rest of us.

Because admins go crazy from reading nothing but x-wing lists al the time... :P

I think they should get forum members who like to correct people's grammer to start doing so on an official basis. That would be better than stopping people having off topic forum meta discussions!

I don't like the idea of giving anyone outside the FFG family moderator status. Although I'll admit the way post have gone over the past few months is the reason I do t visit as often as I once did.

Locking and Moderators are for those weak in the force. I like reading the petty arguments it is more fun than most of the gaming posts.

Yeah, I agree. Like the thread or not, it didn't seem necessary to lock it down. It just strikes me as a bit... draconian, when you can instead just let it run a short life cycle and die. No harm, no foul. Wondering now if this thread get locked. Could I get a warning point for this post?

As I said in that thread I have dropped my own fair share of spam on these forums I remember all the posts just before gencon was hilarious, I think people were just starting new threads to wind people up, but it's getting beyond a joke IMO people just come here because it is an active forum to post crap constantly.

As a basic rule of thumb for most online forums, discussing moderation of the forum isn't normally a good idea and attacking the moderation is an even worst idea.

End of the day FFG use these forums to increase excitement for their games and to provide players with a free FAQ (Which I have used a million times on this and other areas of their forums) and bad topics can sour players feelings towards their games.

Now who reported the post we will just have to wonder ^_^

Draconian? Hardly. The post was off topic, it was continuing the discussion of something else that had been locked, and it was publicly discussing moderator action - the first may be tolerated to varying levels, but either of the other two are pretty much going to be an insta-lock on any reasonably moderated forum, if not additional warning points.

Honestly, the moderation around here is rather pathetically inactive, all things considered.

I reached my mind out to the Force. It told me that this thread leads to a path of Warnings and being Locked, Be mindful of the Force.

Agreed, it's FFG's forum, they set the objective and it's entirely their right to enforce it. Even if it's not what some of us would like, it's not our forum.

All joking aside, mazz0, you are correct of course.
