Elite Talent Card Idea

By TheRealStarkiller, in X-Wing

Whooow wow ... now we are afraid of Tie Bombers carring Mines? You mean Jonus and Rhymer?

How do they magically drop a mine and slip away? How likely this would be - even those cards were real? How many Y-Wings do you see to completely and utterly blast the game with this upgrade card?

Those are just some quick interactions that might have more far-reaching consequences. I haven't gone through any rigorous playtesting all the possible combinations where this might interact.

I do feel it would alter the game too much. Especially where it would be abused beyond the intent, such as bumping into one of your own ships and then barrel rolling or boosting to arrive at places you are not supposed to be.

Perhaps limiting it to actions listed on the action bar? That would at least (mostly) exclude stuff such as prox mines, a bunch of EPT's such as Daredevil and the odd crewmember or astromech.

Did you read that it only effects enemy ships now?

I don't understand your paranoia against Mayor Rhymer carring a Proximity Mine. This would still be a one trick pony for 30 points ... so Rhymer would still be able to drop a mine even if he is blocked by your Rookie? Wow a real meta-rocking game changer - everybody need to have Rhymer from now on and this will ruin the game once and for all.....

... but only in your personal dimension.

After reading Dauntless I agree with 1 pt, but made a slight change to work versus enemies only

Elite Pilot Skill

Nerves of Steel

1 Pt

Small ships only

After you execute a maneuver that causes you to overlap another enemy ship, you do not skip the perform action step.

This way it works versus blocking, but not your own bad flying

Almost there ... delete the word 'enemy' ;)

Doing barrel rolles after bumping into your own ships would actually be very cool.

I am now in love.

The only issue with removing the word enemy is that then you need no skill to fly in formation. I totally disagree with removing the enemy from the card. It takes all of us who have practiced for a long time and makes our practice basically useless against a rookie. Remember the game is about maneuvering and flying in formation is part of that.

It's why I stopped playing video games. I spent 1 year unlocking every upgrade, granted I only got to play 1 time a week. Then someone comes along and pays 10 dollars to get all upgrades I spent a year of my time working on getting. It's takes the veteran vs rookies out of the game.

You don't need skill to fly formations anyway.

Get yourself acrylic templates - they are much more precise and watch a formation tutorial video on youtube - thats all you need. And of course a bunch of ships and a good reason to actually fly them in formation.

This would be Howlrunner + 6 Ties for example. It would be helpful for Howl to survive a round longer if she won't lose her action after bumping - but Academies don't have elite slots - nor Obsidians.

So the only scenario would be Howl + 5 Black Squadron Pilots ...

Do you think unskilled players flying THIS formation would ruin the game?

I'd say: Cheer up beginners! Try to fly close formations and see that it don't takes skill no matter if you lose your actions or not.

Do you have any other scenarios in mind?

You'd be surprised how many times people bump when flying because they move the wrong guy first or you have broken there formation. Having it work all the time and never stopping an action is too cheap for just 1 point, IMO

Those ppl need to think prior to moving. This is what you learn in the first few matches.

Tell me what other formations you have in mind - apart from the Black Squadron.

Tell me what formation would be turned into a game breaker in the hands of 'unskilled' players?

I want to unterstand your thoughts. Just give me a single precise example in form of a squad list.

Apart of this - I think this upgrade would be exactly in the league of 'Veteran Instincts'. Pushing the PS value by 2 for only one point. Thats useful. And so protecting your actions would be.

Adrenaline Rush, Determination and Deadeye should be 0 points - but thats a different story.

Well for one you have the Rebels, with the X-wing Castle. Two Falcons not afraid to bump every, talk about the bus from hell. There are others.
