February release maybe?

By Bipolar Potter, in Star Wars: Armada

Well, I was debating a career change: shotguns with Tazer rounds for everyone! ;)

But that is starting to seem premature. So far as we can tell:

  1. Armada hasn't left on the container ship yet
  2. It seems increasingly likely it will get caught up in -- and thus slowed down by -- Chinese New Year festivities

Also -- fwiw -- Amazon has updated delivery date on my pre-order to April 28 / April 29.

Yes, this is all too tragic. :(

I already have the Core (as well as the Raider-class corvette from X-Wing) on pre-order, and I'm in the 'long wait'.

Are distributors still confident on February? It seems pretty unlikely at this point, but it's looked that way for a while, and distributors were still saying February.

My distributor still says February, but he always puts a hefty "take with a pinch of salt" caveat on Fantasy Flight stuff. Personally,,,,i'm doubting it.

My distributor is also saying February (but maybe it's the same one). But it's looking very unlikely now....

Cheers

Mark

I am curious as to what people are gauging this "unlikely" in February information on, just a simple FFG website that indicates when their products are still in the factory or on a ship? I would hope not.

I look at a couple major factors when determining when this game will most likely come out, and that being how this game will have competitive play.

1) The tournament kits were on sale late December and indicated that the tournament season starts in March. In my area I just played in my first X-Wing store championship of the year meaning tournament season is already upon us. If the core + wave 1 hits stores late April the tournament season is almost over, too late to pitch Regionals and further tournaments. Call me out if I am wrong but I cannot see a past March release date for this being all that successful.

2) Major dates like GenCon happen end of July, usually with major releases in next wave products being up for sale. This happens late July. I would expect Armada to be shown here with Wave 2 being up for grabs. This can't happen very well if the core sets are hitting stores late April.

If I were to take a guess without citing "distributors" and "secret contacts" (both of which I don't have) I would imagine this coming out some time between last week in February to mid March.

After 2 odd years of X-Wing, I feel pretty confident in predicting things based on that web page. With a single exception, every X-Wing product has taken at least 7-8 weeks from being updated to 'On the Boat' to getting into stores.

The one exception was the Transport. Otherwise it's taken that long, if not longer. That means at this point a February release is very, very unlikely.

In addition Imperial Assault was listed as "on the boat" when it was released in Europe, and only changed status when retailers had them to start selling in the US. Also the expansions for IA are listed on retail sites as January 2015 release, but they are still listed on the Upcoming chart as "at the printers". I know there is no way those will reach the US until March at the earliest, unless the Upcoming list is wrong. Based on this experience I don't put much stock in the "Upcoming" list.

Well this is coming from Amazon (we know how spot on they are)... Just received update email and Amazon is now saying March 5-10. I can see the days if thing get moving within the next few days. I'll just be here in the corner holding my breath...

now saying March 5-10.

That is about 8 weeks from today... So it would have to go into the "Oh the Boat" status this week really, next week would be in theory possible, but much past that and no it's unlikely to get here by early March.

I got the same but an extra week (but then I am down in NZ) ;)

Dice just got updated to "on the boat"... all expansions are updated to "at the printers" just now.

You can't really play the game, but you can roll all the dice you want!

Yes, and that's exactly what I'll be doing lol

We might be able to glean some insight into the release date based upon the way in which they have released news. Today there was a news article. Lately, these have been coming at a rate of once every 3 weeks. I would guess that we can expect three more articles before the game is released: one on Rebel cap ships (as promised at the end of today's article), one on Fighters, and one with the rulebook/announcement of release. If they maintain the once-every-3-weeks schedule, that would put the release date in 9 weeks. If they increase the frequency to once-every-2-weeks (since they often accelerate news releases at the very end), then we can expect the game in 6 weeks. Maybe. Take this with a huge pinch of salt. But it does roughly line up with the late February/early March dates that are being bandied about.

Yes, we had news on how the fighter rules work. But we still need a post on what cards are included in the fighter expansion.

Plus that article didn't cover the bonus fighters (A-Wings, B-Wings, Y-Wings, TIE/x1, TIE/In, TIE/sa)

Im hoping they do one more on the objective system with some sample missions :)

Amen to more on the objective system!

Just thinking- FFG could have given each ship a preview article to draw out the articles (as they tend to do the articles on a regular interval), but instead decided to merge all of the imperial ships into one, and are doing the same for the rebels. I wonder if this means they're closer to delivery than they were initially expecting, or if breaking the articles up was a worst case scenario that didn't need to be used.

Looking at the news page, it's been 2 per month (excluding tournament kits that all games got a press release), so we know rebels will probably be in 2 weeks time, then maybe one or two more if late February is still accurate :)

Current pattern has been a preview every 3 weeks exactly (checked the dates on the last 3 articles). So I'd expect something on the 6th-7th
