Furballs - what would you fly?

By rym, in X-Wing

First off, the search yielded nothing on Furball, or at least, not what I was looking for, lol. Secondly, if there is a thread regarding this already, I apologize.

My friends and I play Furball skirmishes whenever the number of players is odd (typically 3), and we have a Furball gameday coming up. We're playing with a version of Furball rules I've seen on here somewhere (Fly what you want. Time limits. Score = points killed divided by points flown. Highest score wins). With that being said, we've decided to have neither a minimum or maximum point limit as to our ships and what we fly. So my question is this, what would you fly, keeping in mind no point restrictions and only 1 ship?

Thanks in advance. I'm more curious than anything else.

RYM! It's you! Awesome to see you here fellow Heroscaper!

The X-Wings and E-Wings do good in the format, IMO, especially if they got R2-D2. I'm sure the Tie Defenders and Phantoms would be good too.

Me personally, I have flown E-Wing with R2-D2 and it was a blast. I'd probably run Wedge and Luke as well in that format.

We tend to limit furballs to 35 points per ship, and no large bases. It keeps everyone from mainlining whisper, and opens up fun choices.

My personal favorite is vader, predator, proton rockets.

I one shotted Luke in the second round.

Also, heroscapers? I'm one of you!

Horton Salm

-Ion Cannon Turret

-Proton TorpedoX2

-R2-D6

-Push the Limit

-Shield Upgrade

Hey-lo! Well? What's your username? rym and I (MegaSilver) have the same username.

There is loads of design space here. My local team does a Tag-team at 35 points per ship.

One thing we've noticed: Ionization is surprisingly potent. It forces you into the furball, when the best position is...not.

Also, invest as heavily as you can in Regeneration. In such a target-rich environment, disengaging is really easy, as your opponents still have shots.

Similarly, there are a few things that are surprising.

Etahn Abaht benefits everyone who is shooting at someone in your arc. That is to say, not at you.

If you can take a Rebel Captive, and you have not taken a Rebel Captive, you're playing it wrong.

Colonel Vessery benefits from everyone who has target-locks.

Squad Leader does not require the ship receiving the extra action to be on your team.

Survivability >>> Damage. If everyone else wipes each other, and you survive long enough to cherry-tap the other survivors, you win.

Also, ditch the "No large-ships" rule. They're still balanced at the 35 point.

Wow. You are correct DraconPyrothayan, there are some surprising things there I did not notice before. Thanks.

And yeah, MegaSilver, it's me. :)

I'm on here most days but mostly lurk and post infrequently. Gotta change that soon.

Nyxen - I have a very, very similar Horton build. I'm using Determination instead of PtL, for a few reasons. One, it's a casual get together among friends, at best. And two, I rarely use Determination (or Y-Wings for that matter) and I'm wanting to fly things I normally wouldn't.

I even have a Maarek Stele build...

Switch predator for Lone Wolf

Then live on the edge. run Blount with an assualt missile and wait for them all to engage, launch your assualt missile, and die horribly XD

You have a Maarek Stele build! Nice!

If there is no point limit I would, just because I can:

Major Rhymer

- Push the Limit

- Advanced Proton Torpedoes X2

- Cluster Missile X1

- Assault Missile X 1

- Proton Bomb

For 35 points, Rebel, I'd have to pick and choose between:

Tycho, PTL, title, Daredevil, Proton Rockets (autothrusters). "Not going to be there, nope, not going to be there either"

Luke, R2-D2, Lone Wolf. "Stop trying ro hit me and hit me!"

Horton Salm, Ion Turret, R7-T1, Flechettes "'scuse me, coming through!"

Or possibly a VI'd Kyle Katarn, with an Ion Turret, Shield Upgrade and Lando crew. "With luck!"

Imperials

A stealth deviced, titled Kir Kanos, with a hull upgrade, or later autothrusters should be a devil to hit.

Deadeye Major Rhymer, with a variety of goodies. Say Proton Rockets, two flechettes and a munitions failsafe.

If large bases are allowed, an OgP with Tactical Jammer, Enhanced Scopes, Rebel Captive and Mara Jade might turn out to be the centerpiece of a complicated dance where people hide in your shadow considering the risk/benefits of blowing you away while you stop and stutter in a slow circle. Of course, once they wise up to your stop, bank 1, stop, bank 1 rhythm, you go bank 1, bank 3 and lookmat the consternation.

Major Rhymer

Ion Torpedoes, Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Cluster Missiles, Homing Missiles, Predator, Proton Bombs, Shield Upgrade

Like I said: A defensive ship that is very good at cherry-tapping. Maarek's not as good as Vader in Furball, but he's not unplayable either.

Of course, you also get the benefit of not looking like a threat, so folks aren't as likely to prioritize you.

I would suggest a point limit, but if none then get silly:

Farlander:

-PTL

-APT x 2

-HLC

-Sensor Jammer

-EU

59 points.

For Imperial I'd go with:

Brath

-Predator

-HLC

-Prokets

-EU

54 points.

I would suggest a point limit, but if none then get silly:

OP mentioned "35 points".

Otherwise, I'm getting silly with Major Rhymer.

In fact, he said the opposite

, we've decided to have neither a minimum or maximum point limit

In a furball, Lone Wolf is definitely preferable to Predator, in my opinion.

No he didn't

Could've sworn....

Did I fall into an alternate reality again?

Wait, what happened to my tail?

In a furball, Lone Wolf is definitely preferable to Predator, in my opinion.

In a non-furball, Lone Wolf is definitely preferable to Predator, until we get back to a low-PS meta again.

I've played Furball games with named pilots...they take freaking FOREVER! 4 pilots (jake farrel, darth vader, farlander and carnor jax) and it took us 2 hours to finish! In the future there will be a rule for no named pilots. We also played 30 points. I like that limit

So with that in mind, for rebels:

Gold squadron - r2-d2, ion, as many torps as I can get (probably x2 flechettes) - the more tanky build

Rookie - r2-d2 w/proton torps and flechette torps

Imperial would probably be:

royal guard tricked out - ptl, hull& shield if they fit in 30 points

sigma with stygium

scimitar loaded for everything - seismic charge, 2xflechette torps, assault missile, concussion missile

Anywho, my 2 cents

???? The furballs I have played have always been really fast, like 20-25 minutes. Way shorter than a 100 point game. Don't think I have ever done a 4 player one though.

Tetran Cowell with Adrenaline Rush, Stealth Device and Shield upgrade (Royal Guard Tie)

Probably not the best, but for some reason I've really liked fitting him with AR into my lists lately. Doing a 1k and still getting an action is really fun, even if it's just a one time thing.

for a 35 point small base only furball, I'd run

Scum Y

Kavil with VI

Argomech

Blaster turret

Engine upgrade

It's a mini-falcon. Bring it.

Might also try a bomb slot with a mine. not yet sold on the BtL title, but might work with EU.

8 hit points, turret with 2 buffs, boost.

Keyan Farlander is another great choice, especially with a crew member like Jan. (she can give herself an evade I think)

I would consider rhymer as well, naturally your big heroes like wedge and luke, turr is a favorite but likely too fragile to last.

Horton would rock this as well.
