Does anyone find the Human Fleet location useful?

By Bleached Lizard, in Battlestar Galactica

Well...? Do ya?

Nope. I find forcing a crisis is a much better way of draining Skill cards from the humans' hands than just cherry-picking one at a time, with the added bonus of possible resource loss and other negative effects if they fail. I can't really imagine using the Human Fleet location, unless I just wanted to mix things up or take it easier on the human players.

It might be very usefull in case Galactica is allready badly damaged to lay the finishing blow.

If the human players are clustered in a single location and you have a high probability of hitting that location in the remaining tiles, I have taken the fleet. In addition, if you know that the human players are relying on a specific card in the upcoming turns (generally, 'strategic planning') it can be worth it to steal the card.

Also, if you have a chance to finish of the humans with damage or commodity loss, you want to be using the fleet.

If the humans don't draw Engineering cards very quickly (say, 0 or 1 among them) then Human Fleet can be devastating, as you knock out critical locations on Galactica and deprive the humans of any Repair cards they might get.

I think the Human Fleet location would be better if:

1) The resource damage tokens weren't removed from the game once encountered, and

2) There was a better chance of damaging Galactica than with a Basestar.

Then the Human Fleet location would be the way to go if you wanted to run the humans down on Fuel or Food.

Very much so.

Fuel is one of the easist ways for humans to lose the game...as many of the location cards trade distance for fuel on a 1 to 1 ratio. You hit that one extra fuel and the humans are in trouble.

Also, you blow up a location and now the humans have to waste an action to get things back on line.

Finally, the bennie of taking a card from someone isn't about just draining someones high card, it's about getting a feel on what their hand is like to better gauge when it's time to hit them with a super crisis.

Is it a no brainer action to do every turn? no. but in a game with 2 cylons having one person pumpkin bombing and the other person draining cards can get really naughty, really quick.

For me, Human Fleet location is too strong.

For example, in 5player game, two revealed Cylons can draw only Technique skill cards from the deck, and also from the humans card and make damages to Galactica through whole game!!! They can collect all 14 card with reparation and Human can do nothing to repair the ship. 6 damages or more and Cylons are winning.

I hope that in the expansion these rules are fixed. (I have no Pegasus expansion yet).

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Like most everything else in this game, it's highly situational.

I've won as a revealed Cylon by using the Human Fleet location to blow up Galactica in the base set, so at least in that instance it was awfully handy.

The only time I played a Cylon Leader with the expansion, I spent about half the game infiltrating, which I couldn't have done without the Human Fleet location. I won that game as well, so it was pretty handy then, too.

It does get used a lot less than Caprica in general, though I think it's not possible to say that it's not useful any more than it's possible to say that Engineering or Administration aren't useful - they're not generally great, but when you need them, you're very glad they're available.

I read that Human Fleet location was corrected in expansion and I'm happy beacuse of that. So, it's ok (I must only buy the expansion)

It sees use for us sometimes. Mainly, you can do a fair amount of damage by poking at a pilot's hand and taking the highest value red out. Firstly, it's a high number red card, secondly, it denies (in the base game) a maximum firepower for the next set of cylon ships, and thirdly, you replenish your hand.

Similarly, taking engineering cards away from a group that does not draw many hurts.

Pre-expansion, we had a situation where we had centurions on board and the armory was damaged. I was playing Tyrol (human). Boomer (revealed cylon) used that location to steal my last repair card. Cylons won that game. LOL
