Preferred squadron builder?

By Intys Rule, in X-Wing

i use yet another over voidstate simply because it has less bugs for me.

I would love a website that could also be viewed in an app.

For the Android apps, there are two that I see. One is X-Wing Squadron Builder and the X-wing Squad Designer. Any opinions between the two and why?

I use Yet another primarily for one reason. Pilots are a separate tab when you're building a ship. That way if you have a ship kitted out and want to change the pilot it keeps all the add ons you had selected. Where as with voidstate if you switch pilots it resets the ship.

Other then that there are things to like about both. But the above reason as well as YASB working better on my phone is very nice. Hopefully something hits iOS soon that does all of this in a nice sleek package. Something that combines the better points of VS and YASB with the info dump of the wiki. That would be epic.

I think FF really missed the boat by not doing one themselves.

I always use this: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build

I just realized that this is the Voidstate builder - so props to Voidstate, it's epic.

However, I've now twice fielded an illegal list due to errors from the program so I'm looking at other options.

Yikes. Sorry about that. I should point out that it's not a bug that lets you play illegal lists... I deliberately let people break the rules because lots of people play house rules or are casual in applying the squad building rules. So, yeah, you can have Chewbacca with Chewbacca as crew. I guess it's about preferring to give freedom over strictly enforcing the rules.

Still, sorry about the illegal lists. :o

Maybe allow it, but include a disclaimer citing why that particular choice isn't legal.

Alternatively, have the "Allow illegality" be an advanced option, and toggle which of the rules you're ignoring.

...Voidstate's squad builder but I've noticed it sometimes goes berserk when doing many changes to a squad and I'd have to restart it.

This exactly. I use Voidstate's exclusively, but it is a pain when I nix a pilot or upgrade and the point total doesn't update. I've ended up with a 32-point list with zero ships in it.

But all in all, your program kicks butt, Voidstate. Thanks so much for keeping it going for us.

I use Voidstates the most. That has all my lists in it. I like it better when I'm on my computer, I like the printout options and such. But on my Galaxy tab, I find it doesn't work quite as well. Loading a squad can be a bit of a pain, and in general I find the buttons are a bit on the small side.Yet Another works great on my tab, so if I'm doing something on there, I tend to use that instead. But even then I put the squad into Voidstate when I have a chance.

Would it help if I made some kind of squadron viewer app so you could browse and view your squadrons more easily with mobile devices?

Voidstate

This would be epic. And if can address my above concerns you'll have a just about perfect app.

I would love a website that could also be viewed in an app.

I have both.. use both. The builder just got a huge update and is current. The designer is my go to for building. just seems better over all.. in my view.. I like features of both that aren't shared. the library on the designer, and the dials on the builder.. nice additions to each in their own respects..

Voidstate, he's the man.

I saw this mentioned up-thread; YASB has collection support now, and will tell you when you can't field the current list using your collection. Obviously, you have to log in to use that feature.

I like voidstate on a computer. And it rocks for epic play.

I use yet another on my phone because voidstate doesn't seem to work.

My boss doesn't think I'll get any work done if voidstate works on my phone.

Geordan's Yet Another.

Only "bug" is that sometimes it won't long in correctly. No big deal.

Its actually helped a ton to teach me what are illegal things. Little aspects, like what R4D6 can go on, and what it cant.

Works quite well on phone. Let's you build pretty easily. Accessing a ton of builds from the phone is terrible though, cuz the scrolling leaves something to be desired. A build search function would be good.

The UK xwing builder has a great and fun randomizer.

I have X-wing Squad Builder for Android also. I have never had any problems. It's a great app.

Yes i have seen it, i just ask myself why the heck they don't manage to make an iOS version for it after all that time.

Voidstate

YESSSSSS!

I have always used Voidstate, but recently it's not updated, resets the page at random, and for a long time i could not use it on my phone because i could not scroll to the bottom of upgrade lists.

Now that seems fixed, and it also finally had a possibility to save lists as plain text (i don't have facebook and i don't want it, but at least i can save lists in plain text now).

Now since yesterday on my phone whenever i click email or plain text, it will get stuck in loading process. One day before it worked fine, suddenly nothing to do about it anymore. I know it's free and i don't want to be picky because it's a big effort.

I just ask myself if he wants to discontinue the page or why he doesn't update it anymore, nor fixes bugs. A long time ago i read somewhere the guy running it would go on a longer journey. I wonder if he finally did or what else is the matter with the page...

I have switched to geordanr. Works fine (always has i just prefer voidtate for optics) and i can finally save lists with google+ instead of facebook.

I also ask myself why we still have no X-Wing squad build app for Iphone. That's something i absolutely don't get. It exists for ages on Android and i have seen it, it's good! Is it some Appstore hate or problems again? Because i bet people would pay for a decently made iOS app, i sure would if it was really well made!

Copyright: Apple would reject it if the designer doesn't have the license from Disney, but FFG or another licensee could build one.

On topic: I use voidstate's. It has a couple bugs every once and a while (collection issues; I somehow acquired a ton of draws on a bunch of lists--some I've never used; stats are currently broken), but from a PC it's really good. It can be a PITA on a phone (iPhone 5s), I echo the comment above that you try to browse your list and the little arrow buttons just stop working at some point--completely, they never seemed to "catch up" for me. The "mobile list browswer" would be a nice touch. Regardless, thank you for your hard work void!

There are a few and most have advantages. I like, mostly, Yet Another for the card browser. I seriously wish that I could compare multiple cards at once.

Voidstate has been my more goto for squads. I REALLY LIKE printing them with full details. :D I don't even need to use the cards when playing friendly games. That's the best for my uses. I've been even printing them to PDF and making my go-to squads for pickup games. 'Here's your squad, all printed with abilities and everything you need except ships.'

I have to admit that it's refreshing to be on the phone side that actually has something! It's usually iOS that has all the neat stuff and I'm stuck waiting on Android. I'm still waiting for "Lords of Waterdeep" to be made for Android.

I used to use voidstate but it would do weird things when adding and removing ships from the list so I moved to YET ANOTHER and have found it flawless (if you don't mind the weaker graphics).

On android, I much prefer X-WING SQUADRON BUILDER over the others because it is fast, easy to navigate and since it's been updated even records win-loss records for lists.

I really like yet another, but it is worth saying that, while I can use it on my mobile devices quite easily, I can't log in to my account on my mobiles. I have to use it as a generic user.

I usually use the British Squadron Builder. I use Yet Another Squadron Builder when the internet I'm using is not very good.

the British Squadron Builder

I like that name for it.

I'll cast a vote for Fab's. I like loading my expansions and hitting random. Makes fun lists you wouldn't ordinarily try.

Wow! Searched terms looking for user opinions on squad builders, and I'm really impressed by the builders put together. Particularly Voidstate's! Well done! It looks and runs great on my PC.

Unfortunately, being the mobile iOS-monkey I am, looks like I'm waiting indefinitely for a mobile solution.
