Question pertaining species

By s0vryn, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Sith Purebloods, referring to those present in the setting of that MMORPG SWTOR, are hands down my absolute favorite species in all of starwarsdom.

Reading the wikis and other information hubs about all things Star Wars, I found that the Sorcerers of Tund are in fact isolated descendants of the very Sith hybrids I adore, AND they're still alive around 4 BBY, before they're killed off by that Croke guy... but what if a few weren't around when it happened, through some circumstance or another?

My question is, does this mean that I could essentially create a character, PC or NPC (depending on my campaign), that can be "pureblood" sith? I've got several ideas on the back story, like trying to avenge his slain family, or being like that galapagos turtle and trying to make a name for oneself, etc. Googling similar subjects has only come up with questions pertaining games set in the Old Old Republic, whereas my campaign is going to be set around the Galactic Empire still very much alive and well, around new hope and rotj.
I suppose i could give him near-human stats... Idk, what do you guys think? Thank you.

If you are the GM, you can allow whatever you want in your games. Depending on your group, you might not have to reach that far to justify it.

If you are the player, talk to your GM and come up with a compromise.

My wife is playing sith pureblood in our legacy game. In my pocket universe of Star Wars, Sith Purebloods are like Tieflings from D&D. You may have devil blood in you that doesn't manifest itself every generation. You may not even know until one day you or your wife gives birth to an orange skinned baby with budding devil horns.

I gave Sith purebloods the following stats:

XP: 100

Brawn: 2

Agility: 2

Intellect: 2

Cunning: 3

Willpower: 1

Presence: 2

Wound Threshold: 11+

Strain Threshold: 10+

Abilities:

Sith Alchemy (or whatever you want to call it in your game): Locked within the minds of the Sith or passed down from generation to generation is the ancient knowledge of the Sith. Sith Purebloods gain one free rank in Knowledge: Lore.

Feral Strength*: The Sith are known for being mighty warriors who allow their passions to wash over them. In the heat of battle they rarely hold back. Sith Purebloods start out with one free rank of Feral Strength.

* This is something I am experimenting with. My wife hardly ever remembers its there so I don't have a good basis on how broken it is. Feel free to replace this ability with something else, or lower the starting XP from 100 to 90.

Honestly, just treat them a Humans in terms of game mechanics. It's the simplest and probably the most balanced solution.

Canon is what you make of it these days. Maybe there's another tribe that peaced out to some corner of the Outer Rim.

As for how to stat them, kaosoe's stats don't seem broken, but I think Morningfire's philosophy holds true.

Just a reflavored human is certainly a wonderful solution. I just gave them stats to make them seem different. I also followed an example set by FFG with the Chiss. They're very much near-human but FFG wanted to make them stand out.

So in short: go with whatever works best at your table.

Another possible story idea is that your Pureblood character was stashed in an oubliette somehow and had to lay in wait for millennia before he could be reawakened. There are EU stories about this kind of thing; Google Remulus Dreypa, for instance. Your character would then be out of time a bit, having to come to terms with a galaxy that's changed dramatically since he or she was put into suspended animation.

wow thanks everyone, as someone whos just now getting into TTRPGs, i'm reaaaallly loving the power of being a GM. It's a shame that i can't be a PC and GM at the same time though, haha

Thank you for the stats, I think i'd start them with one rank of Uncanny Senses, though.

I certainly hope there are more descendants of the Sith that actually look SIthy around, i suppose.

I like Dreypa's story, reminds me of Belsavis

Might set up a good nemesis when force and destiny comes out, an oubliettified old Sith Lord trying (and failing) to start his own Empire hahaha, or something else.

my main idea is to have a pureblood running about, specifically a survivor of the Tund massacre, because he'd know all this dark side force stuff a bit. I'm thinking of having him as an NPC companion to the team or something... i already see him, not really giving a crap about galactic politics or doing evil deeds, just using his powers as an extra card up his sleeve from time to time, sort of a Swashbuckler with dark powers that he doesn't really use evilly, with a smiling facade masking his trauma from surviving the massacre somehow.
SO how exactly does your game explain the existence of purebloods, Kaosoe?

Well, if this is for an NPC, then species stats pretty much don't matter. You can assign the NPC whatever characteristic and skill ranks you feel would fit the character. If you look at some of the NPCs that are listed with a species tag in the Adversary chapter, a number of them are lacking skill ranks and/or talents that a PC of that species would get.

I tend to bend "canon" a lot in my games. In my game, Sith purebloods don't have a cohesive culture by the Legacy era. The Sith gene(s) is/are recessive and may not manifest every generation. A bloodline could go hundreds of generations without seeing a Pureblood.
