fate related creatures, after fate has changed

By bushaaya, in Talisman Rules Questions

in the woodlands, there are creatures and enemies that you meet, that have strength / craft equal to the amount of fate that you have.

my question is, what happens if you use a fate during the fight? is there any change, or do they remain the same as they were in the beginning?

thanks

Hey, I suppose not, since The fight is divided into 5 parts:

1) evasion

2) spells

3) str/cft bonuses

4) rolls

5) rerolls

So, your and a createrues power are calculated in step nr 3, therefor it won't change in step 5 (where rerolling happens).

I don't know what creatures and Enemies are you talking about. Verdandi should be attacked using fate instead of Craft in psychic combat, while cards like Rusalka and Naiad have fatebound effects. When fatebound effects are triggered, you may only have a certain fate distribution; if you spend fate later, the fatebound effect is unaffected (it has already been resolved).

An Enemy very close to what you said is the Nether Golem, but it's from the Nether Realm expansion.

As UtileDulci said, when you roll to determine the attack score you are adding Strength (or Craft) to the attack roll. If the attack roll is rerolled (or another effect that consumes fate is used), the calculation is not altered in real-time. The rules say that Any effects or abilities that affect a character’s Strength or Craft must be implemented before the attack roll is made.

So if you are fighting against Verdandi using your fate (e.g. 3 fate), you will be calculating attack score as 3 + attack roll. If you spend a light fate to reroll, it's still 3 + reroll.

The rules of basic set forgot to say that the same rule should be valid for the opposing creature, but after so many expansions I think we could confidently extend it to creatures. So you'll have the Nether Golem and similar effects covered.

The only time using fate during battle or psycic combat changes anything is when facing enemies that have fatebound effects that affect you after the battle is resolved. I.e. some enemies might be better to win against when you're lightbound but in order to win you've to use a fate and turns unbound resulting in something completely different after winning the battle.
