Amber Wizard Beast Form

By qendi, in WFRP Rules Questions

Is it me who is missing something or all shapeshifting spells are based on Nature Lore which is as far as I know not a career advance for a wizard? Since none of those spells is easy to cast I'm wondering why make it even more difficult by denying the use of Spellcraft skill. Or mayby I'm missing something. Could anyone clarify it to me?

I believe it's meant to encourage Amber Wzards to go into careers such as scout and similar, which fits their style. Many of the skills used on their actions are based on other things than spellcraft, so going into non-wizard careers is almost mandatory.

Indeed, though read strictly the fluff on colleges indicate wizards do not go off into other careers I have always allowed dabbling in careers consistent with the role of college x wizard. A Light Wizard Investigator, sure, etc.

Absolutely, I've always seen it as the wizard learning more about the mundane aspects of their order. Such as a Bright Order Battle Wizard going into the soldier career, a gray wizard in the thief career, a celestial wizard in the seer career or as an Amber Wizard in the hunter or scout career.

As long as it fits the character and wizard order I'm ok with it. It just makes sense that most wizards would pick up other careers along the way, at least if they are not cooped up in a tower their whole life.

This is especially true in the Acolyte etc. phases, before "officially becoming a full-credited wizard", which you are not at Rank 1. If you have a overseer/patron assigning you tasks, it quite likely includes "scut work" that practically requires you pick up various skills etc. effectively making your career something else - including simply "Servant".

Hmmm, 2nd try editing, an Amber Wizard would assign duties out in woods, tracking animals, taking notes, examining scat (making you long for mere 'scut' work), hunting down rabid or tainted animals.

That's one of those instances, where WFRP actually encounters multi-classing. I will play an Amber Wizard one day, who will become a lumberjack. And it will be glorious.

Oh and BTW Grey Wizards would make better soldiers or assassins, what with their love for swordsmanship and what not.

An Amber lumberjack and he's okay,

He works all night and he sleeps all day....

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I think I love you. :D I am now picturing a crossdressing Amber Wizard. It is glorious.
