Fat Han and Kyle - just a fluke that it's been working?

By serrate, in X-Wing

Ok, I've been running the following for a few games:

Han w/Predator, MF, EU, C3PO, Gunner

Kyle w/title, VI, Blaster Turret, EU, Recon

I've been meaning to prep for a tourney by running a serious squad, but in the last few games vs my friend (good player but is pretty new, as am I) this squad has been melting face.

So, please, is this just because of our own n00bish-ness that this is working so well? Is this a build I should actually consider running in a local tourney? It seems so short on red dice, but at 98 points, it smokes Whisper, dismantles swarms, and generally seems to have good staying power.

Should I stop toying with this and run something better? I keep meaning to try other builds, but it's hard to put it aside when it keeps winning.

Soemone did world champs top 8 or so with the same thing except with Jan. Worked fine. I think most peiple think that 3Zs tend to be a little more effective. bUt if it works for you, go for it.

It's not terrible, but it seems like Jan is a better option there.

What Blail said!

If you like Kyle, sneak Jan into that list and you might be surprised! Kyle isn't bad, maybe better now that PS7 is slightly more relevant, but PS 10 Jan is solid. The tradeoff is you drop Predator for VI on Han, though you do get the bonus dice from Jan. So instead of 3/4 dice Pred + Focus shots from Han, you get 4/5 dice focus/actionless shots that rely more on Han/Gunner to get consistent damage. Heck, the more I think about it, the more I like that Kyle. I'd say both are good options as long as PS 9 isn't extremely rampant.

I've given some thought to a Dash/HWK combo, where the HWK is used to fill one edge of the donut hole. Haven't worked put the specifics yet, but I feel like the potential is there.
