Yuuzhan Vong and others as factions Anyone?

By dpb1298, in Star Wars: Armada

I am sure this would not happen for a long time but is anyone else interested in seeing the Yuuzhan Vong as the third faction? You can't really make scum and villainy as a third faction for a Capital Ship game so I think these are a lot more likely. I also want to see factions for the New Republic, Galactic Alliance and the New Empire under Gilad Pellaeon and later Jagged Fel then Victor Reige as a faction and the Chiss Ascendancy and the Empire of the Hand. Heck why not throw in Pirates and the Killiks, Basically I am really excited for the endless possibilities of this game! What do y'all think? For some reason I feel as though I am going to get a lot of flak for this. Shrug

Most of those factions no longer exist as Disney wiped the slate clean in regards to the EU.

FFG does not seem to care what Disney says nor do I.

I think we will continue to see EU ships from FFG... that can of worms was opened a while ago with the X-Wing game, no reason to close it now... I also am hoping/expecting new ships from the new canon... Which I will undoubtedly also want.

Having not been terribly impressed with much of the novelization material, I personally don't care much for the Vong as a third faction... However I don't see any other good choices. Unless another faction pops up in episode 7. Despite my personal preference I do see the Vong as being the best possible third faction as of right now.

Actually they do care as Disney is the owner of the property. They have to keep the owner happy if they want to renew the license.

Given that the original license was from LA and not Disney, the terms are probably similar to what WotC/WEG had to go through which means submitting decisions back to them for approval.

Dont really want to see the Vong, for the purely superficial reason that their ships are ugly as **** :P.

However, 3rd factions are tougher than X-Wing. Scum dont really have capital fleets (the silliness in Empire at War: Forces of Corruption aside) so thats unlikely.

For a 3rd major faction, there's actually not many options other than Vong that I can think of tbh. But really....there's SO much EU stuff for Imperials vs Rebels/New Republic, i see no reason to bother for a long time.

+1 to the Vong being totally ugly and disgusting. I wouldn't want to pay $40 for a small plastic model that looks like a turd.

Personal preference, though; I understand if some people like them.

They might do Corporate Sector Authority or the CIS. Maybe the Hapens though they would need to create new ships for the last group badly since AFAIK there are only four Hapen Capital ship models in the EU

And they could do a pirate faction in theory since from what I've read many CIS warships ended up in pirate hands after the Clone Wars and all CIS warships seen on screen range from just slightly smaller then a Victory class to about three time the size of an Imperial class. Use CIS models and Zann Consortium warships for the heavies and smaller capital ships used by underworld forces in the EU, new canon or mentioned as being used by such forces in the RPG for lights and mediums and you have capships covered. And there are tons of fighter models used by the underworld to choose from.

I'll pass on the Vong and leave my utter dislike of them at that.

I'll personally be surprised if we see a third faction, and if they do I'll have to jump on board the pirate theme, but even that seems sketchy to me. Time will tell.

Oh my gosh! I forgot to mention the Hapans! They are one of my favorite races. Yeah I definitely want them and the Anakin Solo to fight over Kashyyyk. That would be an awesome battle to re-create.

Oh they still exist. They're just part of Legends canon now. As is this game, since FFG already revealed it will be using Legends models.

Having said that, I never really liked the Vong so I'm not particularly jumping for joy at the thought of them, but on the other hand... if other people are hoping for them, I see no reason to derive them from their joy. It's not like I have to play them after all.

Do they even have enough ship variety to make for a varied fleet though?

I concur. I also voiced my opinion on the xwm site some time ago. The thing is having multiple factions will extend the life of the game as well as different strategies as far as FFG goes to give each faction it's own flare. I still want some clone wars stuff too.

Hapens really only have a handful of ships unless FFG invents new ones for them but they already invented the Gladiator-II for the game, and invented a number of capital ships for the RPG so its not too out of character for them to invent new ships for Armada.

For Capital Ships the the Hapans have Battle Dragons, Nova Cruisers and Beta Cruisers and some kind of a destroyer although we don't know what the last two look like. For fighters they have Miy'til Starfighters, Miytil Assault Bombers and Miy'tari Scouts as well as X-J series and what not. For named Capital ships we have the Dragon Queen I and II. We could also have Prince Isoder's Star Cutter the Beam Racer, the Bagtag Skiff the Blue Slipper etc. Commanders can be Tenel Ka, Pince Isolder and many other named Hapan commanders. I think they certainly have enough unique ships to be a small faction.

They have the Stella Frigates from FOTJ as well if FFG is willing to use ships from sources that late

I want CIS Hold outs. That's all I want. :D

EDIT: And no Vong. I am happy Disney nuked the EU since it removed them.

I don't know about the RPG, I've never looked at any of the books. But as for the Gladiator they didn't invent that. It's been around since 1985. Did you mean the Mark II or just the Gladiator in general ? It could be it's the difference between the very few Gladiator's that have been in Star Wars lore.

What are some of the capital ships they've created for the RPG ? I might just have to buy some of those books just to learn about them. Learning about Star Wars ships is one of my hobbys.

Yeah I specifically meant the Gladiator mark II. Sorry thought I had made that clear. I always thought the only differences from the original gladiator design and the newer ones were cosmetic changes caused by the different graphics tech used for them though.

Capital ship wise FFG has created the Xanter class Deep space Exploration Frigate, and the Starbolt class Assault Carrier. That's all I can think off off the top of my head for capital warships so far but I believe they created at least one starliner class plus a number of smaller vessels.

Nah that's my bad, I wasn't sure. Sorry about that.

And thanks RC! A deep space exploration frigate, sounds pretty cool. I've got some stuff to look up. Thanks again!

The Xanter is in Enter the Unknown, the Starbolt is in Dangerous Covenants but so far all of the EOE Career and Region books have had at least one or two new ships in them and if AOR follows suit and I hope they do, I'm sure there will be many, many more new capital ships coming.

That is awesome to see they're making all new ships. Something that is sorely needed with Star Wars. Next month, well more like February I'll look into picking those books up. Thanks for that RogueCorona!

You're welcome.

To answer the original question: No, certainly not.

I would like to see as wide a variety of Imperial and Rebel ships as possible available before FFG even considers other factions. Only after that, would I want anything else, and even then, I don't think I would want them.

Must have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fingers Crossed for an Errant Venture as well :)
