Our local gameshop hosted a small tournament, mainly attended by gamers from a local group. We had only eight players, and most of them are still quite new to the game. Four rounds, standard rules.
I decided to put all my three Lambdas on the list, they have way too few flying hours together. Three (naked) shuttles equals a convoy, and a suitable escort for them was a Phantom (Shadow, ACD, SJ, IA) to cover their six. 99 point for initiative, which turned out to be a good decision.
First game was against a mix-and-match TIE list, with Obsidian, Winged Gundark and Howlrunner in basic TIEs, and Saber and Carnor Jax in Interceptors. Tough list for me, I manage to fly quite well but TIEs had hot green dice, so I struggled to down any. In the end (time) I was down to Phantom and managed to kill only TIE aces - and rest of them more or less at 1 HP. Bad way to start a tournament.
Next one was against a strange list with Vader, Black, Saber and Turr. Took a long time, but eventually my superior hit points and firepower were prevailing, with a little help of Phantom´s manouverability and Intelligence Agent (relly earning his/hers allovance or whatever Imperium is paying them). Lost one shuttle to all of them.
Then I had a quickest game yet, against three Shadows (ACD, FCS). My opponent was used to play Space Wolves in 40k, so he went straight in against my shuttles. Old wisdom is that shields are superior to agility dice, so I manage to one-shot two of them in the first firing phase in head-on-range-one exchange against shuttles (2 hits and a crit, shields down and a direct hit, second one with four hits, no evades at all). The last enemy phantom spend his only firing opportunity on an asteroid, I downed one of his shields. In the next round the lone phantom flew in the middle of all of my ships, so it was 18 minutes and a handshake. 100-0 was needed.
Last one was against my friend´s solid Chewie (Nien Nunb, PtL, Recon Spec, MF) and two AS Blues. Thight game, I wet for the Falcon and managed to down it with loss of two Shuttles, and Phantom was in 1 HP. Looked grim, as B´s were more or less intact, but higher PS Phantom was actually very good against B´s. As long as I avoided their fire, even long range unmodified fire did some damage to the Rebels. Eventually I killed both of them.
Good tournament, three wins and the margin of victory was enough for the win. The shuttles were great, and Phantom was an excellent addition to cover them.
