Wow. How did i miss this thread. It makes me proud to be British (not actually irony) We are the people who can say the most ridiculous things with a convincing straight face and confuse our enemies into giving us their countries.
OT: oh my go some people dont get satire/irony/sarcasm
Why do all of you Limeys assume Yanks don't get your humor?
Sarcasm is a way of life for some, it is not owned by nationality.
I'm Canadian but have many English friends I've made over the past ten years or so. Even though Canada is culturally like "English lite" it's remarkable how few people seem to catch onto being straight-faced facetious here.
I'm American, but prefer British comedy, and think the American versions are abominations (if they ever make a US version of Spaced, I'm rioting).
Everyone one at work thinks I'm a sociopath, but I just have a really dry humor and delivery, as well as a resting b****-face that makes Clint Eastwood's perma-scowl look like Willard Scott. To be fair, I am a sociopath... but a very funny one. I kind of wish I was British, however I dislike the Hitchhiker's Guide so I'm pretty sure that disqualifies me and puts me on some kind of MI5 watch list.
It depends do you dislike the movie? The BBC series from the eighties or the books.

You can still be redeemed if you like doctor who or eastenders ![]()
Speaking of brit comedy (don't like anything after the 90's really) I heard ze germans were gonna do their own version of Fawlty Towers. I wonder how that one scene goes in that version.
Btw does "Father Ted" count as brit comedy?

Didn't care for the movie. Never saw the series, and could not, for the life of me, get into the book(s). I may have to try again, though I admit; and I'll try the show with your blessing. ![]()

Eastenders is great... but I have written vignettes of comedic hate about Who... sorry. ![]()

Speaking as a Brit, I'd just like to opt out of the patronising "we're cleverer than Americans cos they don't get irony" bollocks.
Anyway, jeez Gadge, the polite thing to do when raising threads like this is to include links to the ones your'e talkign about.
Speaking of which, it'd be nice if people did that when discussing cards too...
You've lost me there
So were you the offended party who reported it.
Most people though it was a funny thread from what i recall?
You missed the entire point of my post. I was making fun of rugby.
Fair play, who was it who said 'if the joke falls flat...' again? ![]()

I was assuming it had been banzored if it was that offensive. I certainly wasnt bothered about it enough to trawl about searching for it.
Anway the crux of it was it was a clearly facetious post about how i found twi leks more attractive than carrie fisher but wondered if any twileks job opportunities existed in the galaxy other than 'dancer' and 'P***'' ![]()

And what was the Carrie Fisher thread about? I assume it was more than just "phoar, Carrie Fisher!"?
Carrie fisher thread was 'phwoar carrie fisher' which turned into an interesting discussion on gender balance in the SW universe and also sidetracked to how 'threatening' forums of the gaming/rpg nature can be to women as they are often patronised or objectified.
Some people like myself pointed out that some men were being offended on behalf of women, while, liek i think at that time men like myself would be upstairs online chatting on this forum while my wife and her friends were talking about how good looking the or 'hot' the guy from firefly was. I think a few of us were tryijng to point out women are not delicate sunflowers that need protecting from the nasty language of those horrible men but actually people like anyone else who can be flirty, dirty, crass and crude too.... only that society frowns on them when they do it.
Gaming as a whole doesnt appeal to women as much as it does men but those women i know who do game (and xwing has a lot of female friends who play, i think out 'group' of gamers in the east mids has about five girls in about 30 people in total... thats high proportions for geek gaming) find xwing an accessable game and dotn care that there are no female pilots (or proportionally few).
My wife tends to play 'kath scarlet' a lot, because i painted her firespray to look like kaths as she didnt like the stock scheme, she knows there are better pilots but likes the story of playing kath. she takes 'howlrunner' if she thinks a list needs that extra punch, not because its a known female pilot.
Women probably dont come on this forum as its very 'top end tourny' centric and its that level of aggressive competition that puts them off not discussion about how pretty carrie fisher may or may not look... i know a few of the girls i game with would have been far cruder about what they'd like to have done to carrie fisher in her infamous gold number
But they play to tell stories with toys... not to get 'killer lists'.
If there is a difference between male and female gamers its that women are more social and better communicators and lack the 'hunter gathererer' instinct to collect everything, own more than the next player and build lists they are in all likelyhood never going to fly to show how clever they are ![]()
Anyway we digress

No Gadge no! They got crazy superwinters there now!
I'm also not to keen on those zombie horde melee simulations they run before each thanksgiving- what do they call them again? Oh yeah Black Friday! ![]()
Black Friday, thats well racist. I want 'white tuesday' or 'mexican thursday' ... i demand equality!!
Anyway we digress
But thanks for 4 pages of hilarious comments ![]()
I always appreciate the British skill of insulting someone and then asking them to agree with you.
It's called "Colonialism".
The Belgians tried that to once, but it got out of hand.
Ouch....
Mind you i think i'll stay here. The NHS has saved my life (litterally) twice and saved my sight once for free.
I dont think with my health i could afford to be American.
I worked in retail ten years in a shop called argos it was 60/40 in favour of the women and I tell you none of the full time staff wanted to be treated any different from the guys, they told dirty jokes and were always trying to embarrass the younger guys who worked on the weekends.
Christmas temps were another thing entirely more interested in talking than working, it was always fun bossing their lazy asses around.
Women in my experience don't want to be treated like delicate flowers, but as human beings.
It's why I can't stand white knights, women don't need you to talk on their behalf about how offended they are, they can do it themselves, but probably won't because they can take a joke just as well as any guy.
Black Friday, thats well racist. I want 'white tuesday' or 'mexican thursday' ... i demand equality!!
LOL! But no I'm not gonna go there.
We bring "racism" on a SW thread and soon we'll have someone anaylising the movies and how storm trooper wear WHITE armor and oppressing people, etc. etc. ![]()
