Luke/gunner+outrider title?

By Jaden Ckast, in X-Wing

So I'm curious how this combo works or if it works at all. Luke or gunner triggers if you miss and then let's you immedietly perform a primary weapon attack. However since you have the outrider title card equipped you lose your primary attack. So if the outrider card is equipped does this negate any Luke and gunner cards equipped?

Yep!

Sad but true.

Haha thought so. Was hoping for a loophole somewhere.

Im being thick here but does luke/gunner trigger after you roll all red misses BEFORE the green dice to evade would have been rolled..

or

AFTER the green dice cancel your hits and you've therefore 'missed'

Much more useful if its the latter but i rarely run luke or gunner so i've never looked into it properly

after the green dice cancel hits. So if you fail to do damage.

That makes more sense, because the card says 'fail to hit' which is very different from 'fail to do damage'

Illl see if the errata mentions that as it really should

No, in X-Wing it's exactly the same.

No because you roll 'hits' dont you. thats the red explosion on the dice.

a hit that isnt cancelled does 'damage'

its the damage deck not the hit deck.

The card would be a lot clearer if worded 'an attack that fails to do damage'.

In the rules, the results on the dice are referred to by the explosion symbol used on the dice - not as "hits" or "crits", that's forumspeak. We use "hits" and "crits" as shorthand on here, but it's not the official wording.

Page 12, section 6: Compare Results:

If there is at least one (explosion) or (critical explosion) uncanceled or result remaining, the defender is considered hit (see page 13). If all (explosion) and (critical explosion) result are canceled, the attack misses and the defender does not suffer any damage.

Ergo, Gunner or Luke kick in when all attack dice results have been cancelled by the defender,

Gadge I made the exact same mistake at first, how it reads and how it's been ruled to work are quite different.

So yeah outrider can only use gunner with its two firepower primary not with its HLC upgrade.

But not if hlc is equipped with outrider title because this eliminates your primary weapon attack.

let me see if I can clarify.....

you roll red dice and get any number of "symbols"

the defender rolls green dice and gets "symbols"

after all dice have been modified(focus, evade token, etc.) and cancelled out by the green dice::

If you have a hit or crit "symbol" left on the red dice you have hit, and apply them as damage to

the shields or hull. If none are left you have missed and gunner will trigger.

Unless you have the Outrider title and a Cannon...

Yes I should of been clearer I did mean with title but didn't say, it didn't really occur to me someone would put the HLC on without the title it wouldn't really be a good use of seven points.

For clarity, the rules for what constitutes a "hit" and a "miss" are on page 12 of the rule book under "Compare Results".

The explosion symbols are not "hits", even though everyone calls them that. They are filled explosion symbols and hollow explosion symbols, or my preference "Booms" and "KaBooms"

It IS possible to take damage without being hit. Asteroids, mines, Vader(crew) etc... can all do damage without actually "hit"ting a ship.

It is also possible to be hit without taking damage. Draw their fire will transfer the damage to another ship but the original target would still be the one that was "hit". Also, the poster child for this clause, Lt. Blount will of course hit with every single attack he does, whether he rolls any (Ka)Booms or not. (exception to the exception, unless he has previously suffered the crit that nullifies his pilot ability).

I once thought the same thing but you can still "hit" and not deal any damage. Assuming a [crit] result is not cancelled you could see some other ship suffering that result via Draw Their Fire. Similarly, there are times you are dealt a card but it is immediately discarded so no 'damage' occurs despite their being a "hit".

Sure 360 degrees is nice, but HLCs are often deployed on ships like B-Wings or the TIE Defender that only use them through their firing arc. Not considered a waste there. WSF with HLC is ok. WSF with Gunner is ok. WSF with both is probably a little expensive.

Ya this was more so in regard to equipping iluke/gunner with the yt2400 and outrider title card. But I know what your saying :)
