What is the best way to stop a Phantom?

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

I'm looking for anti-Phantom tactics, any suggestions?

Fat Han, full stop.

Try hitting them with double flechettes.

Start in the corner and keep all angles covered. Have a ps 9++ preferably one able to stress or one shot the phantom.

This. Flachettes are MADE to stop Phantoms.

Chiraneau with vi engine Vader and gunner. The phantom will not concern you.

Mara Jade

Blocking Decloak lanes (See Paul Heaver in 2014 Final)

Turrets

Try playing a few games with it. Then you can start to counter where you think they will likely go.

Also rebel control lists are good:

Roark Garnet (19)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Moldy Crow (3)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)
Total: 100

What's a rebel control list?

Pin it against one side of the board and then block the decloak options on the remaining side.

It's actually easier than you might think as long as you can pin it against one side. You only need to block one half of the decloak options that way, and the phantom player has already selected his move. So you might not succeed in totally preventing the decloak, but if you can guess with decent accuracy what the phantom will do, you can block the best and second best decloak options.

With a bit of skill and a nearby yurret/ion/stress delivery ship, you can get the phantom pinned down.

Even four dice aren't fool proof. It's only one more than a tie fighter. Often people are afraid to take shots at the phantom but they can take damage even when cloaked.

Ghostbusters?

Just flick it off the table and step on it.

HLC outrider with VI tends to shred phantoms or force them to stay cloaked.

I played mine *without* vi and the only thing that kept whisper alive was initiative. Echo and the shadow squadron went down in a couple of turns each despite ACDs

Just flick it off the table and step on it.

I was goingto say something like this but most my posts are facetious these days so avoided it :)

Blocking the decloak lanes

Hard to do, only works if you are really good. But effective if you can manage it.

Turrets

The easiest and most reliable way. Falcon is the go to because it has 3 dice to throw, but decimator is in that category now.

Higher PS ships.

If you move after them, you negate their strongest point: staying out of arcs. The problem with this is whisper always takes VI,

and has an initiative bid. So you need to take VI yourself and get up to PS 10. Also you need re- positioning skills. I have had

good luck with Corran and r7-t1.

Just stress it. R3-A2, Flechette Torpedos, Tactician.

Take away its credit card? Or wait, maybe that's how you stop a Rhino...

Flechette + Stressbot.

Stick it on Hobbie for 29 point double stress with no penalty.

Decoy is not bad, but you need one other ship with a high PS

Currently this is my go to anti-Phantom ship >> Horton "Stache" Salm w/ VI+EU+ICT+FT or PT (if points permit).
