What pairs with a Cracken Swarm?

By captainfreeman1, in X-Wing

So, I love the Z-95. Almost as much as I love the HWK and the B-Wing. But there's no good way to run 7-8 Z-95s effectively, since there's no Rebel equivalent to Howlrunner. So I figure I can make a compromise. I run a mini swarm of Craken w/ Squad Leader and Experimental Interface, and 2-3 Bandits (or Talas, depending on points).

The problem I'm running into is that I don't know what to run with the mini swarm. What would you run? And what kind of tactics would you use?

How about Craken with squad leader, 3x bandits and a base line YT-2400 with outrider and HLC?

Furball it up with the Z-swarm while mr YT skirts the edges of the fight picking off targets.

Corran.

Actually, naked Etahn might be good.

The naked Wild Space Fringer with HLC Outrider would be another great choice.

I like Cracken as a cheap Swarm Tactics carrier. You mentioned liking HWKs, pairs well with Roark to get a few PS12s going. Maybe with a B or YT-2400 with HLC to get a Focus + TL at PS12 to blast down someone before they can respond (Cracken can even help them barrel roll into arc if need be.

Cracken is not designed to be played with swarms of 2 attack dice ships, and the outrider doesnt want be played close to your Zs.

I've been running Cracken with VI, along side Wedge. Its pretty brutal. Usually throw in 2 Talas and either Biggs or Tarn with R7. I've had great success with it, Wedge shoots with focus and TL every turn, just nasty.

Etahn, cracken with swarm tactics and 3 bandits. Enough points for upgrades.

If you bring lots of Z's, I agree -- Ethan is your best choice for adding in some crits.

Heck, a naked Outer Rim Smuggle might be nice too, to play the "big juicy target" role while your Z-95's are massing fire. Tactical Jammer might help out a little too.

2014 Australian Championships, the finals included a fat Han with 3 Talas, so you've got something going here. Sounds like a blast to play!

How about running Cracken with Lando and Biggs?

Cracken, Squad Leader

Lando, Nien Nunb, Jan Ors, Expert Handling

Biggs, R2-F2 and some Flechettes

That's a lot of actions allowing you to turtle up.

In this instance, how would Expert Handling be of value? You want to keep the falcon close to biggs for the protection as well as the free action.

I'm just recently giving this card a chance, so I'm curious what the reasoning is.

In this case you have some repositioning ability for the Falcon, even during combat.

Biggs focuses, possibly triggering Jan, Lando goes green, gives Biggs an action for R2-F2, Cracken shoots and depending on the board situation allows Lando to roll away (or cuddle up to Biggs) or gives Biggs a Target Lock or any sort of shenanigans.

You could also drop the EH and Flechettes and put an EU somewhere for fun and giggles. Repositioning during combat is grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

You don't have to keep Biggs close the entire game, in fact you're better off splitting him off once his shields are down so that your opponent has the option to split his fire (hopefully meaning everyone stays alive longer)
