Jake Farrell and PTL

By luke732, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey,

the card clarification (p. 16; push the limit) says "... This can result in an action interrupting another effect, causing that effect to finish later; for example, if a ship performs a free barrel roll action granted by Expert handling, it could use that action as a trigger for push the limit. After PTL resolves, Epert handling finishes resolving (which means you recieve a stress token I think)". My question is: Can I use PTL (after performing a first action; for example evade), to perform a second action (focus) and use Jake Farrells game text to perform an action (boost) interrupting PTL (recieving a stress token after the free boost action from Jake)??? This would mean: Evade, Fokus (PTL), bosst (Jake), stress (PTL). Did i get this rigth?

greetings

Yes.

You'd take the Evade action.

Then use PtL to take the Focus action.

Then because you completed a Focus action, Jakes special ability triggers, letting you take a Boost or Barrel Roll action before you get the stress from PtL.

thanks!

I've been trying to figure out the exact ways you can use Jake to Boost and B. Roll in the same turn in the order of your choice. Might as well tag in here?

>Focus, trigger Jake and PTL but resolve Push first.

>>Push - Boost

>>>Comeback to Jake and finish with B. Roll? That doesn't work does it? Stress is already applied right?

I can Boost > Push-Focus > Interrupt(Jake-B.Roll) > Push-Stress, right?

Focus > Jake-B.Roll > Push-Boost-Stress. That is the obvious one.

Any other imoportant sequences? Not using Exp. Int?

Any time you resolve "Push the Limit", adding stress is the last thing you do.

That means that anything that triggers off of one of its interior actions still occurs before the stress.

Also note that PtL isn't limited to the activation phase: If Jake is flying in a fleet with Garven, Kyle, or one of the free-action passers, if he has no stress he can wait until recieving the focus token, perform a free boost or barrel roll action, use the PTL to gain a 2nd action right then and there, then get a stress.

Particularly potent, as Garven lets you do this mid-combat, and Kyle lets you do this after everyone moves.

That does not work. For the reason you state.

I can Boost > Push-Focus > Interrupt(Jake-B.Roll) > Push-Stress, right?

That is legal.

Focus > Jake-B.Roll > Push-Boost-Stress. That is the obvious one.

Legal as well.

I'm assuming that to get the most out of Jake you need to focus as first action then do his boost/b.roll then ptl to do the rest of his actions

You may want to re-read the posts above - they clearly state that it doesn't matter whether you focus first or second. You still get the free boost/barrel roll, the stress would come afterwards.
