tarn or blue squadron pilot?

What's better: Blue squadron b-wing + advanced sensors (25 points) or Tarn Mison X-Wing + R7 (25 points)?

I say Tarn. People just don't want to fire at him and he can withstand a good amount of shots. The movement of the X-wing is superior, as well.

Most likely Tarn but it also depends on what else you're flying in the same list.

Yeah it's going to depend a bit on the rest of the list. But Tarn+R7 is a great ship.

I totally agree with everyone above for the points they have made. I also think that tarn is a very different fish altogether than a b wing and not just because of the obvious. I believe he is not really seen as a threat like a b wing is and kinda gets left alone because of this as well as the reasons stated above. X wings in the current meta are seen as a bit weak, this works great against most lists as I have found tarn goes into the end game nearly unscathed and then people rue dealing with him. He don't stand upto phantoms very well though, but what does

I would take Blue + FCS for 24pts

That Tarn + R7 vs Blue + FCS is probably the ship combos you should be comparing, as they are more similar.

Free target locks, just like Tarn, plays differently. In general I just prefer B Wings though, haha.

I would focus on the blue first of those two. Focused fire to one agility dice would drop fast.

What's the rest of your list? If it's already full of people that are going to be getting hate first, then Tarn's ability doesn't do much throughout the game, where as Blue w/ FCS gets to take free TL+F shots throughout the game. But if the rest of your list doesn't have a clear #1 target, then Tarn might be the better choice as he will live a bit longer than the Blue.

As some have said, it depends 100% on the list

Not to mention that R7's once per round restriction gets Tarn hosed against masses of ships, especially at close range where the X-wing's 2 green dice are largely invalidated by just sheer numbers of red, while the Blue's Advanced Sensor makes it a hilarious blocker or even arc-dodger against low PS enemies such as Academy Ties. Because they can take an action even if they're blocked or go through an obstruction, they're just generally great at navigating hairballs and other related cluster****.

X-wings I've found are more efficient at longer ranges, where a very decent dial and 2 agility leveraged with 3 red dice can do a lot of work, while advanced sensor Bs are deadly up close.

Pick whatever your list lacks.

Dash + VI + Outrider + HLC + Mercenary Copilot

Jan + Ion Turret + Squad Leader + Intelligence Agent

Etahn + Wingman + R2D2

Tarn+R7 OR Blue + AS

Dutch + Ion + R3A2 + Title

Gold + Ion + Title

(By title, I mean the one from scum that allows the y-wing an extra forward shot with the turret)

That may be true as long as Wedge is around, but you don't want Tarn to become a target until the end game anyway. Due to the once per round restriction, he's much more effective when there's only 1 or 2 ships that can even shoot at him.

With the shear number of ships in your proposed list, I would go with the Blue w/ FCS personally. Also, R7 doesn't scale very well when you go to higher point totals, as Tarn can be taken out in one turn, and R7 only gets to activate once. Blue w/ FCS will not be the main target, and as such can have fun with lots of F+TL 3 (or up to 5 with Jan + R1) shots. It opens up Dutch to provide TL to other persons as well so you have multiple people throwing lots of modified dice.

Oh it's an epic game

Normally, the list is essential because 25 points is taking up a full quarter of it and throwing too much weight behind one kind of strength (long range or short range) means you'll run into more hard counters.

In epics, though, the impact of one ship is obviously going to be far less. Personally would go for Tarn because he'll keep up better with the rest of the ships and the titled Ys are pretty devastating at close quarters.
