Deadliest double Decimator list you can make

By Garrett Lowe, in X-Wing

2 VT-49s. 100 pts.

I fiddled around this morning and came up with this:

Chiraneau + Expose & Experimental Interface (53 pts.)

Oicunn + Determination & Ysanne Isard (47 pts.)

100 pts. total. Chiraneau's got loads of dakka & Oicunn's somewhat tanky.

Now fellas, yours?

One without a second VT-49. ;)

Kenkirk (Determination, Ysanne Isard, Moff Jerjerrod)

Oicunn (Intimidation, Mara Jade, Dauntless)

100 points

If I was going to run 2 Decimators, I think I would try something like this:

Commander Kenkirk w/ Determination, Ysanne Isard

Captain Oicunn w/ Dauntless, Daredevil, Engine Upgrade

100 points

Patrol Leader (40)
Rebel Captive (3)
Gunner (5)
Mercenary Copilot (2)

Patrol Leader (40)
Mara Jade (3)
Gunner (5)
Mercenary Copilot (2)

Total: 100

You see to me i cant imagine running two in a 100 point game.

To me they are the 'centrepiece' of a fleet, they are the big threat surrounded by swarming TIEs and in my imagination they patrol alone.

I jusy dont think i'd like the look of two toghether or have the points to make them interesting.

its pretty much a blunt object in a game in which the beauty is manouvre and counter manouvre.

For me its a nice occasional variation but two, two is too much for me :)

Ah, but it is fun every now and then to run two. I totally get what you're saying. This list is something I can see myself playing a lot. The TIE/ln interchangeable with three Scimitar Bombers.

Patrol Leader (40)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Rebel Captive (3)
Gunner (5)

Academy Pilot (12)

You see thats how i fly a decimator.

:)

Pretend the only ships I own are 2 VT-49s.

Those 10 TIE/INs & 9 TIE/LNs in my closet aren't mine. ;)

For shear offense this can hit pretty hard:

Rear Admiral

+Predator

Oicunn

+Intimidation

+Gunner

+Title

Oicunn is the battering ram and can force your opponent to target him first. Chirneau can fly along the battle and pick things off. Predator + his ability is like having two actions for free so even if you are blocked you get some dice modification.

one of these:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau
Expose, Ysanne Isard, Rebel Captive, Experimental Interface with
Patrol Leader

or

Commander Kenkirk
Predator with
Captain Oicunn
Expose, Ysanne Isard, Experimental Interface

actually the deci maneuvers quite well when not stressed..

Oicunn + Dauntless + Anti Pursuit Lasers + Expert Handling + Mara Jade

The idea is to slam into someone, then barrel roll into a position where you're like to get hit by someone else.

Patrol Leader + Gunner + Rebel Captive

This is your actual gun. And an unpleasant target for anyone who has options.

You know, Patrol Leader has a low enough PS that it can be used for some aggressive blocking with APL.

PILOTS

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (57)
VT-49 Decimator (46), Ruthlessness (3), Ysanne Isard (4), Engine Upgrade (4)

Patrol Leader (43)
VT-49 Decimator (40), Darth Vader (3)

Decimator of Doom (100/100)

==========================

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40 + 3)

+ Darth Vader (3)

VT-49 Decimator: Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46 + 11)

+ Expose (4)

+ Ysanne Isard (4)

+ Experimental Interface (3)

I've won twice with this in my last two games.

I know expose has no negative (other than using an action) on a deci but wasnt the conscensus that there were cheaper more useful EPT you could use?

My Duodecimator build:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

  • Ruthlessness (3)
  • Mara Jade (3)
  • Weapons Engineer (3)

Patrol Leader (40)

  • Rebel Captive (3)
  • Mercenary Copilot (2)

I know expose has no negative (other than using an action) on a deci but wasnt the conscensus that there were cheaper more useful EPT you could use?

That said, there are two problems I've seen with the Double Decimator build:

1) Offense. You're throwing 6-7 dice at most ranges, for two attacks per round. Fat Han laughs at this. Especially one using Paul Heaver's build from World's.

2) Defense. 32 HP seems like a lot, but you are taking every crit your opponent rolls. In a match I played last night, I had Chiraneau Blind and Injured, with a Damaged Engine and structural damage by the end of Turn 3. Shortly after, Oicunn was Stunned with a Console Fire and took damage every time he hit someone. Determination or Jerrjerrod really feel like a requirement for these guys at the very least.

I don't recall seeing MJ's analysis, but here's mine:

Expected hits+crits at range 2+:

Expose, no other actions:

>>> dice.vs(dice.attack(4,0,False), {'':1.0})

(2.0, {0: 0.0625, 1: 0.25, 2: 0.375, 3: 0.25, 4: 0.0625})

Expose+focus (using EI, so plus a stress, or fleet officer, etc.)

>>> dice.vs(dice.attack(4,0,True), {'':1.0})

(3.0, {0: 0.00390625, 1: 0.046875, 2: 0.2109375, 3: 0.421875, 4: 0.31640625})

Predator+focus (assuming 1 reroll)

>>> dice.vs(dice.attack(3,1,True), {'':1.0})

(2.68359375, {0: 0.00390625, 1: 0.046875, 2: 0.2109375, 3: 0.73828125})

At range 1, the same pattern plays out:

Expose, no other actions:

>>> dice.vs(dice.attack(5,0,False), {'':1.0})

(2.5, {0: 0.03125, 1: 0.15625, 2: 0.3125, 3: 0.3125, 4: 0.15625, 5: 0.03125})

Expose+focus (using EI, so plus a stress, or fleet officer, etc.)

>>> dice.vs(dice.attack(5,0,True), {'':1.0})

(3.75, {0: 0.0009765625, 1: 0.0146484375, 2: 0.087890625, 3: 0.263671875, 4: 0.3955078125, 5: 0.2373046875})

Predator+focus (assuming 1 reroll)

>>> dice.vs(dice.attack(4,1,True), {'':1.0})

(3.5126953125, {0: 0.0009765625, 1: 0.0146484375, 2: 0.087890625, 3: 0.263671875, 4: 0.6328125})

The only time that expose makes sense is if you can expect to reliably get two actions onto the Decimator. Otherwise, in the single-action case, predator+focus wins (as usual, it doesn't look like picking focus or TL makes a difference to expected damage, outside of the overlap with predator).

In the case of two actions, you're typically paying 4 extra points and a per-turn stress (+1 cost for expose, and then +3 for EI and a local stress, or +3 for fleet officer and a remote stress).

Personally, I don't feel that +4 points and a stress is worth 0.32 extra damage per turn.

Of course, both Gunner and Chiraneau reduce the value of a focus, so here's my vote:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Push the Limit (3)

Mara Jade (3)

Ysanne Isard (4)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Patrol Leader (40)

I'd put gunner on if I could fit it, but that only leaves 38 points. PTL off of the start-of-combat evade into a boost, if needed. This gives you the Dash donut hole, phantom tears, and triggers the ranged-based abilities. The other deci blocks and generally wishes it were a couple of bombers or something.

Howlrunner

Patrol Leader + Tactical Jammer

Patrol Leader + Tactical Jammer

Oicunn with Jade

RA Chir with Expose and gunner

It is simple but direct.

or

Oicunn with Ruthlessness, Mara Jade, and Ysanne Isard

Patrol leader with Gunner and rebel captive.

I know expose has no negative (other than using an action) on a deci but wasnt the conscensus that there were cheaper more useful EPT you could use?

I believe MajorJuggler said in the last Nova Squadron podcast that Expose plus EI is a net boost to the Rear Admiral. It's effectively the same points as an HLC, with more firepower at range 1.

I'll try and talk about this more on the next podcast. Basically, Expose + EI works on the Rear Admiral because he gets a soft focus. + 1 dice + TL + "soft" Focus is generally better than TL + Focus.

The summary of the analysis can be found in my MathWing thread here:

http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/128417-mathwing-comprehensive-ship-jousting-values-and-more/

... although I need to explicitly state in the second post how much expected damage the Admiral does. I'll eventually do a full MathWing piece on it, but until then I'll toss out some quick numbers on the next cast.

The direct alternative to Expose + Experimental Interface (7 points, EPT + mod) is PtL + Engine Upgrade (7 points, EPT + mod slot). Both can work on the Rear Admiral, but Kenkirk will want to be using PtL + Engnie (or something else) so he doesn't lose his agility. Incidentally I stated this wrong on the cast when discussing Expose. :)

Two Patrol Leaders

Howl Runner and Swarm Tactics.

Though this could be fun.

Capt O + Rebel Captive

Commander K + Iceheart + Engine Upgrade + PTL

Or two Patrol Leaders with Engine Upgrades and Gunners

With a couple of points for flavour.

did the meta change so hard in half a year's time that no one is talking about 2 D's before the tournaments?
