first store championship help

By eibon, in X-Wing

so im going to be entering my first store championship what would be ur guys advice on well everything haha

Pick a squad you will have fun with, don't forget to eat, drink lots of water

what he said.

give yourself extra time to go to the restroom, calm the nerves, say hello to new people and smile.

Oh and arrive early, do not want to miss the sign up and or the start of the tourney

Get a cardboard box top or some sort of tray that you can put your stuff on to move between tables.

Make sure to meet people and find potential people to play.

Expect lots of big ships. I went to an event last night and half the people were very new to the game. Over half the lists had big ships.

Run a swarm or fat Han

1.) Tray to move your stuff around.

2.) Eat before it starts.

3.) Fly a list you know.

4.) Expect to lose most games

5.) Talk to people.

Recipe for a great time right there.

Edit: 6.) Don't blame dice for losses! You won't have fun and you won't get better.

Don't bring your entire collection, just the squad you're flying for the tournament. Space will likely be at a premium, so there's no point in bringing a bunch of ships and tokens that are just going to sit there.

#1 for me is talk to other people, especially the person you're playing against.

It helps calm any jitters you may have, builds relationships that last way beyond the tournament and makes the event fun.

#2 fly something that's fun for you and that you will be happy to fly for consecutive games.

It's all well and good bringing a powerful build, but if it's counter-intuitive to the way you personally like to fly it might sour your experience.

Before you leave home, line up your mini's, pilot cards, dice and damage deck. Deliver an epic inspirational speech about the fate of the Galaxy and how it is in their hands (wind and smoke effects are not optional btw)

This is easily the greatest advice ever.

Build a list that suits your play style. Practice with that list as much as possible. Try to match up against the latest hotness (Decis and 2400s). If you find yourself starting to win a lot, give your practice opponent an extra 25 points on his list.

Mostly though...have fun. In the end its still just a game.
