Temporary Alliance

By Cununculus, in X-Wing

In the previews for Imperial Assualt I read the following sentence:

´Use the Temporary Alliance card to bring Mercenary units into your Imperial army.....´

The card allows you to recruit Scum and Villainy forces in addition to your Imperial forces.

For myself, I am not that sure I would like to see this appear in X-Wing, if not to say I am against it. I find the third faction to be very interesting, but I would like to see it kept as separately as possible.

As questions to fellow forum members:

- Do you think it likely such a card will appear in X-Wing?

- Do you see this as a necessary / wanted addition for X-Wing?

Edited: - removed double link

- attempt at grammar improvement

Having a temporary alliance of Scum + Other vs Someone Else makes more sense than seeing a Rebel vs Rebel fight.

Doesn't look bad. Probably won't happen officially due to balance, but I don't see why you can't do it as a casual rule.

IA and X-wing are fundamentally difference games. IA doesn't have a Scum faction, they're a pool of Fringer units the Empire uses in Campaign mode and in Skirmish via this card.

It has already been included. The Imperial version of the Firespray.

I guess that's one way of looking at it.

I think if you do not keep them seperate and distinct, then you lose the point of haing factions at all. I also think there would be many serious game balance issues.

While some ships do cross over (and this makes since fluff wise) I think pilots should not.

I don't think they would ever do a card. I could definitely see a mission though. Maybe in the Most Wanted pack.

Hmm.... sounds like another friendly wager....

Good point. Do you see the inclusion of a separate Firespray, Boba Fett and the like as proof/reason there are already different mechanisms at work to include scum pilots in the Imperial Squads? Therefore making a card like Temporary Alliance unnecessary?

Would be nice, otherwise you might get Vader and Xizor in one squad...

Yes I think it was already included. Perhaps in Imperial Assault they wanted to take a cue from Firespray in X-Wing and decided to create the card. In both cases, they are representing the Empire contracting the Bounty Hunters in Empire Strikes Back.

I'm not sure any other combinations will make an appearance.

More likely it is there to open up build possibilities, since the releases will be inherently lower in Imperial Assault and builds would be really limited without this option.
