I'm pretty new both to Vassal and to X-Wing in general, having just two or three dozens of games in total.
But i find Vassal quite easy to use so I don't mind teaching to new players nor having funny games with any player.
Just don't expect to face the next World Champion!

I've been playing on Vassal for about a month now with about a dozen games under my belt. I'm sure I don't know all the intricacies, but I'd be happy to help brand new players get up and running. I try to play two or three games a week.

Is observing games in progress possible on Vassal without unduly disturbing the players? I can right click an existing game and I get a Join Room option, but I wasn't sure if that was generally encouraged or not.

I downloaded Vassal a few days ago but I haven't had a chance to play a game yet. I poked around a bit to get a feel for it though. If anyone wants to play at some point today let me know!

I've yet to play but would love to. Name on Vassal is Draconias. I just downloaded the 5.2.3 Mac version but can't get the chat rooms to open. Anyone else with the latest mod running into this problem.?

I use a mac, the chat/sever window opens but it's sort of collapsed into the far right of the window, if you click and drag the window's bottom right corner the everything should appear. Another option (which I use), is to go into the module's Preferences and Uncheck "Use combined application window (requires restart)", this will make the serve window open in it's own, separate frame, and your chat window should display properly.

You don't have to reinstall. You log in like usual, and in the main window, go to File/Preferences/Personal
Not in the launcher window, but in the main window once logged in.
Boy do I feel sheepish. I think I read two posts above that and skipped to the bottom to post in excitement. Will switch name back to Draconias and thanks for everyone's help. The community here is awesome!

I'm new to Vassal & I'm having some issues with quickly building squads. I've read through the tutorial, and the post for saving squads does not look like what I see on my Vassal client, which is the latest version. I tried to find the zipped squad file that someone mentioned earlier, however I couldn't find it. Does anyone have a link? Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

The Squad Building Template is on the same page as the X-wing module:

It's listed with the previous, version 5.2.2 files. As far as I know this version is still good except for the Large base ships, which were recreated to fix an issue with the printed firing arcs (but the cards & dials are still good). It wont have the M3-As, and a couple generic Y & HWK pilots because they weren't available until the most recent version was released.
